In-plane impact dynamics of honeycomb structure containing curved reentrant sides with negative Poisson's ratio effect

Jianbang Shen et al.

Summary: In this study, a honeycomb structure with curved reentrant sides and negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) was designed, and the impact dynamics behaviors were investigated using finite element method. The study found that the Poisson's ratio and energy absorption capacity of the honeycomb structure varied with the arc angle and compression velocity.

Spindle vibration mitigation utilizing additively manufactured auxetic materials

Jungsub Kim et al.

Summary: This study introduces novel spindle holders fabricated from auxetic materials to mitigate spindle vibration by enhancing energy absorption and vibration damping under cyclic loading. The experimental results demonstrate that these auxetic material-based spindle holders have high damping characteristics and effectively reduce spindle vibration magnitude, thereby improving spindle operations.

Unique strength-ductility balance of AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high entropy alloy with ultra-fine duplex microstructure prepared by selective laser melting

Yinuo Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, the selective laser melting (SLM) technique was used to prepare AlCoCrFeNi2.1 EHEA, achieving a good balance between strength and ductility. The SLM-ed samples exhibited a complete eutectic microstructure consisting of ultra-fine FCC and ordered B2 phases. The eutectic morphology transformed from lamellar structure to cellular structure as the laser energy input decreased. The SLM-ed AlCoCrFeNi2.1 EHEA demonstrated excellent mechanical properties, including high tensile strength, yield strength, and good ductility, which can be attributed to the ultra-fine grains and heterogeneous structure.

Synthesis of Refractory High-Entropy Alloy WTaMoNbV by Powder Bed Fusion Process Using Mixed Elemental Alloying Powder

Tomer Ron et al.

Summary: The interest in refractory high-entropy alloys (HEAs) has grown in the last decade due to their thermal stability, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance. However, their drawbacks in processing and machining operations hinder their use as common structural materials. The recent progress in additive manufacturing (AM) technologies has provided the option to produce complex components made of HEAs with minimal machining processes.

Design and mechanical property studies of 3D re-entrant lattice auxetic structure

Jianbang Shen et al.

Summary: A new Ti-6Al-4V 3D re-entrant lattice auxetic structure was designed and fabricated in this study, which showed better mechanical properties and larger design scope through uniaxial compression testing and deformation mechanism analysis. The results provide guiding significance for the study of 3D re-entrant lattice auxetic structures.

Complex Concentrated Alloys for Substitution of Critical Raw Materials in Applications for Extreme Conditions

Dumitru Mitrica et al.

Summary: This paper presents a mini-review on the potential of new complex concentrated alloys (CCAs) to substitute or reduce the use of critical raw materials in extreme conditions, based on recent reports and regulations from the European Union. It evaluates the concept and research directions of CCAs, highlighting the advantages of using critical metals for specific applications while acknowledging the challenges in substituting them with other materials. Additionally, it discusses previous achievements in the field and the potential for reducing critical metal content through the use of multi-component compositions.
