Effect of the anisotropy of martensitic transformation on ferrite deformation in Dual-Phase steels

Vibhor Atreya et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel methodology to quantify the transformation-induced strains in ferrite in dual-phase steel. The results show that neglecting the shear deformation associated with the martensitic transformation leads to significant underestimation in the prediction of transformation-induced strains in ferrite.

Interaction between η-Ni3Ti and reversed austenite within Custom 465 stainless steel: experimental evidence and related patents investigation

Chih-Yuan Chen et al.

Summary: After various aging treatment conditions, nano-sized intermetallic compound particles (eta-Ni3Ti) and reversed austenite with various shapes were observed in the martensite laths of Custom 465 stainless steel. The size of the eta-Ni3Ti particles increased with the aging temperature and time. The presence of reversed austenite led to inhomogeneous distribution of dislocations and resulted in a wider Vickers hardness distribution.

Effect of aging temperature on the austenite reversion and mechanical properties of a Fe-10Cr-10Ni cryogenic maraging steel

Honglin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of aging temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-10Cr-10Ni cryogenic maraging steel was systematically studied. It was found that aging treatment at 500 degrees C can achieve a desirable combination of high strength and excellent cryogenic impact toughness.

Synergistic alloying effects on nanoscale precipitation and mechanical properties of ultrahigh-strength steels strengthened by Ni3Ti, Mo-enriched, and Cr-rich co-precipitates

M. C. Niu et al.

Summary: The synergistic effects of Mo, Ti, and Cr on nanoscale precipitation and mechanical properties of maraging stainless steels were studied. Mo was found to partition to the Ni3Ti precipitate core in the early stage of precipitation, accelerating Ni3Ti precipitation. This led to the formation of Ni3Ti, Mo-enriched, and Cr-rich co-precipitates, contributing to the development of new steels with increased strength.

Effect of aging temperature on the heterogeneous microstructure and mechanical properties of a 12Cr-10Ni-Mo-Ti maraging steel for cryogenic applications

Honglin Zhang et al.

Summary: The evolution of heterogeneous microstructure and mechanical properties of a 12Cr-10Ni-Mo-Ti maraging steel was studied at different aging temperatures. The study found that as the aging temperature increases, more reversed austenite forms and more lath-like reversed austenite coalesces together, leading to the formation of a martensite and austenite dual-phase microstructure. Fine eta-Ni-3(Ti, Al) particles initially precipitate at 440 degrees C and grow with increased aging temperature, but coarsen and dissolve as the aging temperature further increases. The desirable heterogeneous microstructure at 500 degrees C contributes to high yield strength and reasonable cryogenic impact toughness.

Impact of steel type, composition and heat treatment parameters on effectiveness of deep cryogenic treatment

Patricia Jovicevic-Klug et al.

Summary: The study shows that deep cryogenic treatment can enhance carbide precipitation and promote more homogeneous distribution in steels. The effectiveness of DCT is influenced by the chemical composition of the steel and the predefined matrix microstructure. Incorporating DCT with higher austenitizing and lower tempering temperatures in heat treatment process is the most suitable for improving steels’ properties with DCT.

A study of tensile behavior of SLM processed 17-4 PH stainless steel

P. Ponnusamy et al.

Summary: The 17-4 PH stainless steel samples processed by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) exhibited superior tensile properties compared to the wrought samples, with higher ductility and ultimate tensile strength. The microstructure of the SLM-built samples showed a higher proportion of retained austenite than the wrought samples.
