Carbon foam composites containing carbon nanotubes and graphene oxide as additives for enhanced mechanical, thermal, electrical and catalytic properties

Jianfeng Wang et al.

Summary: By incorporating multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and graphene oxide (GO) as additives in the carbon foam (CF) matrix via direct pyrolysis, the microstructural performance of CF samples was significantly improved. The addition of MWCNTs and GO also enhanced the mechanical, thermal, electrical, and catalytic properties of the CF samples. The CF samples with 2 wt.% MWCNTs-GO loadings exhibited the optimum compressive strength, Young's modulus, thermal conductivity, and electrical conductivity.

A 3D Framework with Li3N-Li2S Solid Electrolyte Interphase and Fast Ion Transfer Channels for a Stabilized Lithium-Metal Anode

Shuyan Ni et al.

Summary: An in situ artificial inorganic solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer is reported to address the dendrite growth issues of Li-metal anode, which consists of lithium nitride and lithium sulfide. Porous graphene oxide films doped with sulfur and nitrogen (SNGO) are used as an effective lithium host to facilitate Li-ion transport, improve SEI mechanical strength, and prevent SEI fracture. Additionally, microchannels fabricated by 3D printing technique shorten the Li-ion transfer pathways and homogenize heat and stress distribution, resulting in low capacity fading for the assembled anode.

Physiochemical evaluations, mechanical attenuations and thermal stability of graphene nanosheets and functionalized nanodiamonds loaded pitch derived carbon foam composites

Muhammad Khan et al.

Summary: This work investigates the synergistic effects of graphene nanosheets and functionalized nanodiamonds on the properties of carbon foam composites. The addition of these additives significantly improves the structure and morphology of the composites, as well as their electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties. Among the composite samples studied, the CF/GNS-FND hybrid composites exhibit the highest in-plane electrical and thermal conductivities, as well as compressive strength and Young's modulus.

Vacancy-Rich MoSSe with Sulfiphilicity-Lithiophilicity Dual Function for Kinetics-Enhanced and Dendrite-Free Li-S Batteries

Hong Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a multifunctional host material, MoSSe/rGO, for lithium-sulfur batteries, which addresses the challenges of sluggish redox kinetics of sulfur and uncontrollable growth of lithium dendrites. By embedding Se into a MoS2 lattice, the host material exhibits improved conductivity and abundant anion vacancies, resulting in enhanced capacity and cycling stability of the assembled Li-S batteries. The study demonstrates the importance of heteroatom doping and defect chemistry in improving the performance of Li-S batteries.

Synthesis of freestanding 2D CuO nanosheets at room temperature through a simple surfactant free co-precipitation process and its application as electrode material in supercapacitors

Arnab Ghosh et al.

Summary: Freestanding two dimensional copper oxide nanosheets with a size of 0.9-1.3 μm and thickness of 3-4 nm were synthesized at room temperature via a surfactant-free co-precipitation process. These nanosheets exhibited a higher band gap of 2.1 eV compared to bulk CuO, leading to enhanced electrochemical properties such as high specific capacitance and energy density. The performance of the supercapacitor device was further improved by decorating the nanosheets on reduced graphene oxide, resulting in significantly higher capacitance and energy density.
