Prospective network analysis of proinflammatory proteins, lipid markers, and depression components in midlife community women

Nur Hani Zainal et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between lipid markers, proinflammatory proteins, and depression symptoms using cross-lagged prospective network analysis. The results supported both vulnerability and scar models, suggesting that long-term dysregulated immunometabolism systems and social disengagement may contribute to the development of depression. Cognitive-behavioral therapies that optimize nutrition and physical activity may be effective in targeting depression.

Predictive value of HDL function in patients with coronary artery disease: relationship with coronary plaque characteristics and clinical events

Marco Magnoni et al.

Summary: The study found that SR-BI-mediated cholesterol efflux is significantly reduced in patients with CAD, while ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux is similar among all groups. In CAD patients, SR-BI-mediated cholesterol efflux <25th percentile predicted cardiovascular outcomes, whereas ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux and HDL-C levels did not. Despite reduced SR-BI-mediated cholesterol efflux, there were no changes in high-risk plaque features or prevalence of elevated plaque volume.

Demographic and Regional Trends of Heart Failure-Related Mortality in Young Adults in the US, 1999-2019

Vardhman Jain et al.

Summary: This retrospective cohort analysis examines the trends in heart failure (HF)-related mortality among young adults in the United States from 1999 to 2019. The study finds an increasing HF-related mortality rate from 2012 to 2019, with Black adults having a significantly higher mortality rate compared to White adults and significant geographic variation. Targeted health policies focusing on prevention, early diagnosis, and reducing disparities are needed to address the rising burden of HF in young adults.

Zizhen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of fluoxetine on glucose and lipid metabolism in the human body. The meta-analysis revealed that fluoxetine moderately decreased fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels, and significantly reduced body weight. Additionally, fluoxetine also significantly decreased plasma triglyceride and total cholesterol levels.

Summary: This study compared serum lipid differences between young first-episode drug naive depressive disorder patients with and without psychotic symptoms. The results showed that patients with psychotic symptoms had higher levels of depression, anxiety, and serum lipid. Logistic regression analysis also found an association between total cholesterol and psychotic symptoms.

Summary: This study aimed to quantify the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the prevalence and burden of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders globally in 2020. The findings showed that the pandemic led to increased prevalence of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders, with females and younger age groups being more affected. The pandemic has created an increased urgency to strengthen mental health systems in most countries and mitigation strategies are needed to address the burden of these mental disorders.

Summary: Genetically predicted depression is significantly associated with an increased risk of MetS and its components, including waist circumference, hypertension, and triglycerides.
