The Joint Associations of Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviors on Adiposity during Adolescence: The 1993 Pelotas (Brazil) Cohort Study

Soyang Kwon et al.

Summary: A prior study in high-income countries found a link between specific sedentary behavior, such as TV viewing, and adiposity in both active and inactive adolescents. This study aimed to examine the joint associations of sedentary behaviors and physical activity with adiposity among Brazilian adolescents. However, the analysis results showed no association between sedentary time or TV viewing time and adiposity in both active and inactive Brazilian adolescents. This suggests that the relationship between specific sedentary behaviors and adiposity may vary across different societal settings.

A systematic review of the validity, reliability, and feasibility of measurement tools used to assess the physical activity and sedentary behaviour of pre-school aged children

Sophie M. Phillips et al.

Summary: This review aimed to examine the validity, reliability, and feasibility of measurement tools used to assess physical activity (PA) and sedentary behaviour (SB) of pre-school aged children. The study found that multiple measurement tools showed some degree of validity, reliability, and feasibility in measuring PA and SB in young children, but often for different purposes. Accelerometers and proxy reported measurement tools used in combination may be useful for a range of outcome measures, to measure intensity alongside contextual information.

Parental control and support for physical activity predict adolescents' moderate to vigorous physical activity over five years

Radhouene Doggui et al.

Summary: This study found that parental support, particularly tangible support, has a positive impact on adolescent physical activity; while parental control behaviors are a negative predictor of physical activity. Parental support and involvement behaviors during adolescence may have long-term associations with physical activity, highlighting the importance of parental role in promoting physical activity among adolescents.

Life course socioeconomic position and body composition in adulthood: a systematic review and narrative synthesis

Charis Bridger Staatz et al.

Summary: The systematic review examined the association between socioeconomic position (SEP) throughout the life course and body composition (fat and lean mass). Results showed that in high-income countries (HICs), advantage in childhood and adulthood was associated with lower fat levels, while the opposite was found in middle-income countries (MICs). The study also revealed that women in HICs are more likely to experience inequalities in both fat and lean measures.

The Cross-Lagged Panel Analysis between Frailty and Physical Activity among Community-Dwelling Older Adults by Age Groups

Hae Sagong et al.

Summary: The study revealed a significant reciprocal relationship between frailty and high physical activity in the middle-old age group, while no statistically significant reciprocal relationship was found in the oldest-old age group after 2 years. Further research on frailty and physical activity in the oldest-old population and specific physical activity guidelines for older adults are necessary.

Modelling Longitudinal Directional Associations Between Self-regulation, Physical Activity, and Habit: Results from a Cross-lagged Panel Model

Rafael Monge-Rojas et al.

Summary: This study supported the hypothesized longitudinal direction of the associations between self-regulation, behavior, and automaticity, indicating that self-regulation may lead to behavior performance and automaticity. However, some unexpected findings were also discovered, providing important implications for intervention and future research.
