Prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus and its determinants among pregnant women in Beijing

Cheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the prevalence and determinants of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) among pregnant women in the Tongzhou district of Beijing, China. The results show that the prevalence of GDM increases with age, pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity, and lack of local household registration. However, multiparity may act as a protective factor against GDM.

The risk factors associated with placenta previa: An umbrella review

Ensiyeh Jenabi et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the risk factors associated with placenta previa through a systematic collection of meta-analyses. It revealed that prior spontaneous abortion, prior induced abortion, male fetus, smoking, advanced maternal age, cesarean section, and assisted reproductive techniques (singleton pregnancy) might be risk factors for placenta previa.

Imaging Review of Obstetric Sequelae of Maternal Diabetes Mellitus

Hassan Aboughalia et al.

Summary: Diabetes mellitus, whether preexisting or gestational, poses significant risks to both mother and fetus. Potential complications for the fetus include congenital anomalies, delayed lung maturity, macrosomia, and increased morbidity and mortality. Delivery methods can also lead to various complications. Maternal complications are related to hypertension and associated disorders, as well as complications related to fetal macrosomia and cesarean delivery.

Changes in adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with advanced maternal age (AMA) after the enactment of China's universal two-child policy

Hui Li et al.

Summary: China's universal two-child policy has led to changes in maternal-neonatal health, particularly among women aged 35 and above. The proportion of neonatal births by women of advanced maternal age increased during the universal two-child policy period. While preterm births, low birth weight, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy decreased, intrauterine growth restriction and gestational diabetes mellitus increased significantly. After adjusting for confounding factors, only the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus increased in this group.

Xueyin Wang et al.

Summary: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with an increased risk of cesarean delivery, preterm birth, macrosomia, and large for gestational age (LGA) in Chinese urban women. Additionally, there is an interaction between GDM and maternal age for the risk of cesarean delivery.

Pregnancy outcomes in women affected by fetal alpha-thalassemia: a case control study

Jiangheng Li et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the potential links between fetal alpha-thalassemia and adverse pregnancy outcomes in China using a provincial woman-child health service information database. The findings indicated that fetuses with HbH disease had a higher risk of low Apgar scores, while the normal fetal group was more likely to be diagnosed with postpartum hemorrhage.
