Dose-Response Associations of Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance Index with Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease among a Nonobese Chinese Population: Retrospective Evidence from a Population-Based Cohort Study

Xintian Cai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association between the metabolic score for insulin resistance (METS-IR) index and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in the nonobese population and its predictive value. The results showed that elevated METS-IR was independently associated with an increased risk of NAFLD development, and there was a dose-response relationship. METS-IR may be a reliable indicator for screening individuals at risk for early NAFLD in nonobese populations.

Association Between METS-IR and Prehypertension or Hypertension Among Normoglycemia Subjects in Japan: A Retrospective Study

Kai-Yue Han et al.

Summary: The study found a significant association between METS-IR levels and pre-hypertension or hypertension in normoglycemia individuals in Japan. For each 1 unit increase in METS-IR, there was a 7% increase in pre-hypertension prevalence and a 13% increase in hypertension prevalence. These findings suggest that METS-IR may be a useful monitoring indicator for developing primary prevention and management strategies for hypertension in the future.

Association Between a Novel Metabolic Score for Insulin Resistance and Mortality in People With Diabetes

Zhenwei Wang et al.

Summary: Insulin resistance has been found to be associated with poor prognosis in patients with diabetes. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between insulin resistance and all-cause, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and cancer-related mortality in patients with diabetes. The results showed a non-linear association between insulin resistance and all-cause and CVDs-related mortality, with insulin resistance below a certain threshold being negatively associated with these mortality rates.

Summary: In a rural population cohort, the TyG index was found to be significantly associated with the risk of developing T2DM, making it a more valuable predictor compared to the TG/HDL-C ratio and METS-IR.

The usefulness of metabolic score for insulin resistance for the prediction of incident non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in Korean adults

Summary: This study found that METS-IR has a higher predictive power for incident NAFLD than HOMA-IR, while both indexes showed similar predictive powers for prevalent NAFLD. The research suggests that METS-IR may be more useful for early detection and prevention of NAFLD than HOMA-IR.

Summary: Our study showed a significant positive association between increased METS-IR and 6-year METS-IR change with incident T2DM risk in a rural Chinese population. Subgroup analyses by sex, age, and baseline FPG level did not affect this association. Dose-response analysis further confirmed the relationship between METS-IR and incident T2DM.

Energy Metabolism Changes and Dysregulated Lipid Metabolism in Postmenopausal Women

Seong-Hee Ko et al.

Summary: Hormonal changes during menopause in women lead to body composition changes, muscle loss, and abdominal obesity, with increased visceral fat as a result. These changes in fat distribution also contribute to metabolic abnormalities, insulin resistance, and metabolic diseases, due to enhanced lipolysis of visceral fat.

Yaxin Li et al.

Summary: This study found that TyG index, TyG-BMI, TG/HDL-C, and METS-IR were significantly associated with hypertension plus hyperuricemia. TyG-BMI and METS-IR showed moderate discriminative ability for hypertension plus hyperuricemia.

Insulin resistance, cardiovascular stiffening and cardiovascular disease

Summary: Insulin resistance is typically accompanied by metabolic insulin resistance and cardiovascular disease, including the correlation of reduced nitric oxide production leading to increased blood flow. Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia promote cardiovascular diseases by increasing vascular stiffness.

Summary: The study found that hormone replacement therapy has a certain improvement on glucose and lipid metabolism in peri- and postmenopausal women, but there is no significant difference between women with prior menstrual disorders and those without prior disorders. Further prospective studies are needed for confirmation.
