Lymphatic vessels in bone support regeneration after injury

Lincoln Biswas et al.

Summary: Blood and lymphatic vessels play important roles in regulating tissue-specific functions. In this study, the presence of lymphatic vessels in mouse and human bones is demonstrated using advanced imaging techniques. The expansion of lymphatic vessels during genotoxic stress and the signaling pathways involved are identified. Lymphangiogenesis is found to stimulate hematopoietic and bone regeneration by promoting the secretion of CXCL12 and the expansion of Myh11-positive cells. However, this response is impaired in aged animals. These findings suggest that targeting lymphangiogenesis could be a potential therapeutic approach for promoting tissue regeneration.

Decreased blood vessel density and endothelial cell subset dynamics during ageing of the endocrine system

Junyu Chen et al.

Summary: The aging process results in a decline in the number of capillaries and arteries within endocrine glands, while the perivascular cells remain unaffected. Specific subsets of endothelial cells play a role in supporting pancreatic beta cells, but decrease with age, potentially impacting beta-cell expansion in the pancreas.

High-resolution 3D imaging uncovers organ-specific vascular control of tissue aging

Junyu Chen et al.

Summary: Blood vessels play a crucial role in supporting tissue functions, but age-associated vascular changes and their connection to tissue aging remains poorly understood. Vessel density and pericyte numbers decline with age in multiple organs, except highly remodeling tissues like the skin which preserve their vasculature. Molecular changes in the endothelium drive vascular loss and influence pericyte to fibroblast differentiation.

Seza A. Gulec et al.

Summary: The intersocietal working group focuses on addressing controversies and evolving concepts in thyroid cancer management and therapy by identifying topics for review and discussion annually. In 2019, key topics included perioperative risk stratification, diagnostic radioactive iodine imaging in initial staging, and indicators of response to RAI therapy. The group agreed on the importance of using risk stratification systems, selectively utilizing diagnostic RAI scanning, and implementing a consistent reporting system for response evaluations following RAI therapy.

Endothelial Dysfunction in Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases and Beyond: From Mechanism to Pharmacotherapies

Summary: The endothelium, a cellular monolayer lining the blood vessel wall, plays a critical role in maintaining multiorgan health and homeostasis. Dysfunction of the vascular endothelium is associated with various diseases and is implicated in severe coronavirus disease 2019. Therapeutic approaches targeting endothelial dysfunction may have potential for treatment of cardiovascular and many other diseases.
