The role of prognostic biomarkers and their implications in early detection of preeclampsia: A systematic review

Srividya Parthasarathy et al.

Summary: Preeclampsia is a multi-system disease characterized by proteinuria and gestational hypertension, and its increasing morbidity and mortality rates globally highlight the need for research and meta-analysis to fully understand its underlying cause. Elevated levels of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), homocysteine, and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) have been identified as potential biomarkers for early detection of preeclampsia.

Intrauterine Limb Ischemia in Patient Heterozygous for the 677C>T) RS1801133 (Polymorphism of Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase MTHR Gene

Ahmad Al Hammouri et al.

Summary: In this case report, a newborn with intrauterine upper limb ischemia was found to be heterozygous for the MTHFR gene 677C > T polymorphism. Despite the controversy surrounding the association between this gene polymorphism and the risk of arterial thrombosis, similar cases have been reported in the literature. It is recommended to investigate complete thrombophilia mutations in neonates and their parents when they present with unusual vascular occlusion sites.

Stillbirths in China: a nationwide survey

J. Zhu et al.

Summary: The stillbirth rate was 13.2 per 1000 births in China in 2015-2016 and nearly one-third of all stillbirths may be preventable. Regional strategies should be considered to reduce the burden of stillbirths in China. The study identified risk factors such as advanced maternal age, pre-pregnant obesity, and fetal anomalies associated with stillbirths.

Revealing hydrodynamics and energy efficiency of mixing for high-solid anaerobic digestion of waste activated sludge

Min-Hua Cui et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hydrodynamics and digestion performance of horizontal anaerobic systems equipped with double-bladed impeller and ribbon impeller. It was found that the ribbon impeller exhibited superior mixing performance and energy efficiency outputs, making it proficient for high-solid anaerobic digestion.

Morbidity and maternal and infant outcomes of hypertensive disorder in pregnancy in China in 2018

Xin Lyu et al.

Summary: Analysis of hypertensive disorder in pregnancy in China in 2018 revealed regional differences in morbidity, with the highest rates in North China and the lowest in Southwest China. The relatively low maternal and infant mortality rates may be attributed to standardized maternal health care in China. For severe cases, prolonging gestation to 32 weeks as often as possible may improve neonatal survival rates.

The impact of micronutrient deficiency on pregnancy complications and development origin of health and disease

Keizo Kanasaki et al.

Summary: The spread of the Western diet has led to an increase in micronutrient deficiency in the Japanese population, with pregnant women at higher risk. Folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium, and magnesium are commonly deficient in Japanese pregnant women. Micronutrient deficiencies can have detrimental effects on pregnancy outcomes and are linked to various health complications.

A Novel Review of Homocysteine and Pregnancy Complications

Chuce Dai et al.

Summary: Homocysteine is produced from daily diet and methionine metabolism, with MTHFR gene mutation related to its expression. High homocysteine levels can lead to various pregnancy complications, and reducing the levels may help prevent these complications.

Mortality and Morbidity of Infants Born Extremely Preterm at Tertiary Medical Centers in China From 2010 to 2019

Zhicheng Zhu et al.

Summary: The study found that infants born extremely preterm in China face an increased risk of mortality and morbidity, with a survival rate that has improved over time and a major morbidity rate that has increased. These findings suggest the need for more active and effective treatment strategies, especially for infants born at gestational age 25 to 27 weeks.
