No causal effects of plasma homocysteine levels on the risk of coronary heart disease or acute myocardial infarction: A Mendelian randomization study

Liu Miao et al.

Summary: This Mendelian randomization study found no causal relationship between plasma homocysteine levels and coronary heart disease or acute myocardial infarction. Conflicting findings from observational studies may be due to residual confounding or reverse causation.

Chemokine and Cytokine Profiles in Patients with Hand Osteoarthritis

Jiri Baloun et al.

Summary: The study found increased levels of nine inflammatory mediators in HOA patients compared to healthy controls, which correlated with ultrasound findings and clinically tender and swollen joint counts in patients with erosive HOA, supporting the hypothesis on the involvement of inflammation in HOA.

The potential shared role of inflammation in insulin resistance and schizophrenia: A bidirectional two-sample mendelian randomization study

Benjamin I. Perry et al.

Summary: Insulin resistance and cardiometabolic traits are unlikely to have a causal role in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. However, inflammation is associated with both schizophrenia and insulin resistance, potentially explaining their common occurrence in clinical practice. Therapeutic interventions targeting inflammation may be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of both schizophrenia and comorbid insulin resistance, with further research needed to understand the underlying biological mechanisms.

Using genetic variants to evaluate the causal effect of serum vitamin D concentration on COVID-19 susceptibility, severity and hospitalization traits: a Mendelian randomization study

Zhiyong Cui et al.

Summary: The causal associations between serum 25(OH)D concentration and COVID-19 susceptibility, severity, and hospitalization traits were not found in the Mendelian randomization analysis. Sensitivity analyses did not show any signs of horizontal pleiotropy. Therefore, high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to further explore the role of vitamin D supplementation in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Cytokines and Chemokines Involved in Osteoarthritis Pathogenesis

Vilim Molnar et al.

Summary: Osteoarthritis is a common cause of disability worldwide, affecting all joint tissues equally. The pathogenesis involves low-grade inflammation leading to an imbalance between anabolic and catabolic processes. The complex network of cytokines regulating these processes plays a central role in the development and progression of osteoarthritis, with concentrations of proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines varying based on disease stage and activity levels.
