Comparative physiological and transcriptomic profiles reveal regulatory mechanisms of soft rot disease resistance in Amorphophallus spp.

Huanyu Wei et al.

Summary: Soft rot caused by the pathogen Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (Pcc) is a major factor limiting the development of the Amorphophallus spp. industry. This study compared two species of Amorphophallus and found that A. muelleri exhibited higher resistance to Pcc. The study also identified critical genes involved in resistance and provides a theoretical foundation for disease control through metabolic engineering.

Synergistic anti-proliferative activity of JQ1 and GSK2801 in triple-negative breast cancer

Nanda Kumar Yellapu et al.

Summary: The combination of JQ1 and GSK2801 synergistically inhibits proliferation and results in selective gene regulation in TNBC cell lines. Functional enrichment analysis identified several metabolic pathways enriched with differentially expressed genes when the drugs were co-administered. Molecular modeling studies also predicted the binding of the drugs with specific proteins, suggesting another mechanism for their effects on metabolism and proliferation.

The expression and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor A in adenoid cystic carcinoma of palatal salivary gland

Haitao Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the expression of VEGF-A in salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues and explores its relationship with the occurrence, development, and metastasis of the tumor. The results show that VEGF-A is highly expressed in this type of cancer and its expression level is closely associated with the pathological grade, lymph node metastasis, and clinical stage of the tumor. VEGF-A can be used as an important indicator for judging the biological behavior of salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma.

Single-cell transcriptomic analysis of the tumor ecosystem of adenoid cystic carcinoma

Quanquan Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, we used single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze the transcriptomes of cells from paracarcinoma and carcinoma tissues of ACC patients. We identified different types of epithelial cells and found that specific intercalated duct-like cells with copy number variations were premalignant cells that eventually transformed into malignant cells. Additionally, we discovered that MYB and MYBL1 belong to different gene modules and drive ACC progression in different directions.

Current opinions on diagnosis and treatment of adenoid cystic carcinoma

Yan Fang et al.

Summary: Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignant tumor derived mainly from the salivary glands that displays contradictory characteristics of slow growth but aggressive progression. ACC of the head and neck (ACCHN) has a propensity for perineural invasion and is challenging to treat. This review aims to provide updated insights into ACCHN and discuss imaging diagnosis, pathological features, and therapeutic strategies.

RNA expression profiling reveals PRAME, a potential immunotherapy target, is frequently expressed in solitary fibrous tumors

Wei-Lien Wang et al.

Summary: Solitary fibrous tumors, a type of translocation-associated sarcoma, exhibit poor response to conventional chemotherapy and high metastatic rates; research indicates that elevated PRAME expression in these tumors is associated with immune evasion features, suggesting that targeting PRAME may be a potential therapeutic option for aggressive solitary fibrous tumors in the future.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

CXCL12/CXCR4 facilitates perineural invasion via induction of the Twist/S100A4 axis in salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma

Mei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that activation of the CXCL12/CXCR4 axis in SACC may promote perineural invasion (PNI) by inducing tumor cells to differentiate towards Schwann-like cells through the Twist/S100A4 axis, accelerating cancer progression.

Summary: Salivary gland adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) exhibits heterogeneous clinical behavior and can be classified into two molecular subtypes: ACC-I and ACC-II. ACC-I is characterized by poor prognosis, upregulation of MYC and NOTCH mutations, while ACC-II shows less aggressive clinical course with upregulation of TP63 and receptor tyrosine kinases.
