Vanadium oxide nanocomposite as electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries with high specific discharge capacity and long cycling life

Sahr A. Alsherari et al.

Summary: In this study, V2O5/reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites were prepared as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries using a facile and low-cost method. The composite cathode exhibited improved electrochemical performance, including higher specific capacitance, reversibility, and stability. This can be attributed to the cooperative effect between the good electrical conductivity of reduced graphene oxide and the unique nano-sized V2O5 spheres with short diffusion pathways.

Realization of a 594 Wh kg-1 Lithium-Metal Battery Using a Lithium-Free V2O5 Cathode with Enhanced Performances by Nanoarchitecturing

Kiyeon Sim et al.

Summary: In this work, a high-energy lithium metal battery with a high-capacity cathode composed of nanoplate-stacked V2O5 is proposed. The V2O5 nanostructure with dominantly exposed (010) facets and a relatively short [010] length is achieved via a modified hydrothermal method. The results show that the nanoplate-stacked V2O5 electrode exhibits improved electrochemical kinetics and stability, leading to higher capacity, rate performance, and cycling capability. The LMB composed of Li//nanoplate-stacked V2O5 full-cells demonstrates high specific energy densities and Coulombic efficiency.

Insight into the Effect of Oxygen Vacancies on Ion Intercalation and Polaron Conduction in LiV3O8 Cathodes of Li-Ion Batteries

Maneerat Chotsawat et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of oxygen vacancies on Li insertion, Li diffusion, and electronic conduction in LiV3O8 cathode materials were explored using the first-principles method. It was found that oxygen vacancies can affect the formation and mobility of polarons, and therefore influence the electronic conductivity and ion transport kinetics of the material. It is suggested that enhancing electronic conductivity and maintaining ion diffusivity can be achieved by controlling the V-O concentration.
