Investigating health impacts of household air pollution on woman's pregnancy and sterilization: Empirical evidence from Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh

Mansoor Ahmed et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between women's health and household air pollution caused by cooking fuels in South Asian countries. It finds that the type of cooking fuel is crucial for women's health, and cooking places also have a negative impact on the age of sterilization. The study suggests that governments and policymakers should take necessary measures to prevent health risks.

How accurate are WorldPop-Global-Unconstrained gridded population data at the cell-level?: A simulation analysis in urban Namibia

Dana R. Thomson et al.

Summary: Disaggregated population counts are essential for calculating indicators in LMICs, but existing census data is often outdated and inaccurate. Modelled gridded population datasets derived from census data are widely used, but their accuracy is evaluated at a larger scale than many applications require. In order to improve accuracy, finer-scale training data and new building footprint datasets should be incorporated into gridded population models.

A review of geospatial methods for population estimation and their use in constructing reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health service indicators

Kristine Nilsen et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of gridded demographic data and DHMIS data to construct RMNCAH coverage indicators. The results show that different population estimation methods have an impact on vaccination rates in Zambia and Nigeria, and gridded demographic data offer potential applications in the absence of up-to-date census information.

Mapping out-of-school adolescents and youths in low- and middle-income countries

V. A. Alegana et al.

Summary: Education is a human right and a driver of development, but accessibility to education remains a challenge in some countries, leading to inequalities. Increasing the number of secondary schools can reduce long-distance commutes to school and improve attendance rates.

The impact of improved data quality on the prevalence estimates of anthropometric measures using DHS datasets in India

Harsh Vivek Harkare et al.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the impact of improved data quality from DHS on prevalence estimates of stunting, wasting, and underweight. Findings revealed that while estimates for stunting and underweight remained largely unaffected, wasting estimates decreased by 2 percentage points due to flagging procedure's sensitivity.

Birthweight data completeness and quality in population-based surveys: EN-INDEPTH study

Gashaw Andargie Biks et al.

Summary: The study analyzed a population-based survey of over 69,000 women in five Health and Demographic Surveillance System sites, revealing substantial data gaps for birthweight information in household surveys. Improving the accuracy and recording of birthweights, as well as enhancing communication with women, could enhance the availability and quality of survey birthweight data.

Health and economic impact of air pollution in the states of India: the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

Anamika Pandey et al.

Summary: The study estimated the impact of air pollution on human health and the economy in India. In 2019, air pollution led to 1.67 million deaths and an economic loss of $36.8 billion, accounting for 1.36% of India's GDP. The economic impact varied significantly among states, with low per-capita GDP states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar experiencing the highest losses.
