Summary: Disaggregated population counts are essential for calculating indicators in LMICs, but existing census data is often outdated and inaccurate. Modelled gridded population datasets derived from census data are widely used, but their accuracy is evaluated at a larger scale than many applications require. In order to improve accuracy, finer-scale training data and new building footprint datasets should be incorporated into gridded population models.
