Lanthanide-Doped Near-Infrared Nanoparticles for Biophotonics

Hui Li et al.

Summary: Light in the near-infrared (NIR) spectral region is increasingly used in bioapplications due to its deeper penetration in biological tissues. Lanthanide-doped luminescent nanoparticles with excitation and/or emission in the NIR range are gaining attention for noninvasive biological applications, offering unique optical properties such as large Stokes shift, sharp luminescence emissions, long lifetimes, and photostability. Advanced strategies for enhancing the luminescence brightness of these nanoparticles have been introduced, along with a review of their superior biophotonic applications in high-resolution imaging, single-nanoparticle-level detection, and tissue-penetrating diagnostics and therapeutics.

Geometric and Electronic Properties of Monolayer HfX2 (X = S, Se, or Te): A First-Principles Calculation

Thi My Duyen Huynh et al.

Summary: The essential properties of monolayer HfX2 (X = S, Se, or Te) are fully explored using first-principles calculations. The materials demonstrate diverse characteristics, including being middle-gap semiconductor, narrow-gap semiconductor, or semimetal, with special structures in the density of states. These theoretical predictions are attributed to multi-orbital hybridizations in the Hf-X chemical bonds, indicating high potential for applications.

Influence of Ce, Nd, Eu and Tm Dopants on the Properties of InSe Monolayer: A First-Principles Study

Zhi Xie et al.

Summary: Doping of lanthanide atoms in two-dimensional InSe materials significantly affects their structural, magnetic, electronic, and optical properties. The formation energy calculations show that lanthanide atoms doping is feasible and more favorable under Se-rich conditions. Lanthanide atoms doping induces visible outward movement of the lanthanide atom and its surrounding Se atoms in the structure.

Lanthanide-doping enables kinetically controlled growth of deep-blue two-monolayer halide perovskite nanoplatelets

Qinxuan Cao et al.

Summary: Impurity doping in nanomaterial synthesis is commonly used to adjust the crystallographic properties, but this study introduces a new method by using lanthanide dopants to manipulate the kinetics of growing halide perovskite nanocrystals, resulting in the preparation of highly anisotropic 2D CsPbBr3-based nanoplatelets with precise thickness control. This approach provides a novel way to control the dimensions of perovskite nanocrystals, leading to the synthesis of deep-blue emitting CsPbBr3:Lu3+ nanoplatelets with good structural and photo-stabilities for potential applications in light-emitting devices, lasers, and photocatalysis.
