Multi-frequency band gap and active frequency modulation of snowflake-like convex horn ligament structure

Shu-liang Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new type of multi-functional acoustic metamaterial, the snowflake-like convex horn ligament structure (SCHLS), to achieve vibration reduction and sound insulation within the recognizable frequency of the human ear. Through finite element analysis and Bloch's theorem, the energy band curve of SCHLS is calculated, and the sound insulation performance and band gap simulation results are verified. The introduction of elastic-material-wrapped resonators and adjustment of resonator distribution and size optimize the band gap. The use of equal frequency curve, vibration mode, and group velocity explains the wave propagation mechanism, and large deformations are applied to explore the tuning properties of the structures.

Low and ultra-wide frequency wave attenuation performance and tunability of a new cruciate ligament structure

Shu-liang Cheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents two novel cruciate ligament structures that contribute significantly to lightweight design of metamaterials, band gap tuning, and ultra-wide and ultra-low frequency vibration and noise reduction, as well as providing a new design idea. The novelty of this paper lies in combining Bloch's theorem and finite element method to calculate the band gap, using the transfer function to verify the evaluation; using structural optimization and applying active strain to test the structural tunability; and illustrating the wave propagation and band gap opening mechanism from the vibration mode and energy perspectives. The results show that the structure has excellent vibration and sound insulation effect, with a wide range of band gap opening under active strain.

Mixed soliton solutions for the (2+1)-dimensional generalized breaking soliton system via new analytical mathematical method

Mujahid Iqbal et al.

Summary: In this research, the dispersive phenomena in the (2+1)-dimensional generalized breaking soliton system (GBSS) were studied. The obtained solitary wave solutions, including mixed solitons, bright and dark solitons, kink and anti-kink wave solitons, traveling waves, and periodic waves, were helpful for understanding the interaction phenomena in various scientific fields such as fiber optics, mathematical physics, fluid dynamics, geophysics, and engineering.

Study on Band Gap and Sound Insulation Characteristics of an Adjustable Helmholtz Resonator

Donghai Han et al.

Summary: A Helmholtz-type phononic crystal with adjustable cavity structure and labyrinth tubes was designed to solve the problem of low-frequency noise in the environment. The structure can generate two complete band gaps in the low-frequency range of 0-500 Hz and has excellent sound insulation performance. By adjusting the structural layout of the cavity, multiple resonant band gaps can be connected to widen the band gap and control environmental noise actively.

Thomson scattering-induced bandgap in planar chiral phononic crystals

Wei Ding et al.

Summary: We report a planar chiral phononic crystal based on Thomson scattering that can open a broadband gap by discarding the local resonant sub-structure. By simplifying the material components, we lower the starting frequency while maintaining the width of the bandgap. This finding provides a new way to manipulate broadband elastic waves and validates Thomson scattering as a promising alternative approach for bandgap formation.

Propagation of the nonlinear damped Korteweg-de Vries equation in an unmagnetized collisional dusty plasma via analytical mathematical methods

Aly R. Seadawy et al.

Summary: This article considers the problem formulation of dust plasmas, obtaining dust-ion-acoustic solitary waves under nonmagnetized collision dusty plasma and formulating the nonlinear damped Korteweg-de Vries equation. The solutions for nonlinear D-KdV equation include bright solitons, dark solitons, kink wave and antikinks wave solitons, and periodic traveling waves. The constructed solutions are represented graphically to understand the physical aspects of various behavior for DIASWs.

Elastic Foundation Induced Wide Bandgaps for Actively-tuned Topologically Protected Wave Propagation in Phononic Crystal Beams

Zhenyu Chen et al.

Summary: This study improves the active control of piezoelectric beams for bandgap generation in wave propagation by capitalizing on the effects of elastic foundation or elastic supports. The results show that by artificially positioning periodic negative capacities and piezoelectric patches, the system sub-structure can be designed for better wave manipulation in bending beam systems.

Simulation and experimental study on vibration and acoustic characteristics of a continuous supported embedded track

Jian Han et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of urban rail transit, there is a growing demand for riding comfort and reducing vibration and noise. While embedded track can reduce vibration and noise, challenges arise when applying it to metro lines due to high speed, large axle load, and complex line conditions. Investigating the acoustic characteristics of embedded track through simulation and experiments can provide insights for its application in metro systems.
