Machine learning at the edge for AI-enabled multiplexed pathogen detection

Vahid Ganjalizadeh et al.

Summary: Real-time multiplexed detection of biomarkers is crucial for accurate diagnosis. A Deep Neural Network (DNN) is used to detect and identify single particles and molecular biomarkers, overcoming challenges in detecting and identifying signals of varying shape and quality. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in detecting fluorescence signals of bacterial nucleic acids, achieving excellent specificity, sensitivity, and classification accuracy.

Photonic crystal enhanced fluorescence emission and blinking suppression for single quantum dot digital resolution biosensing

Yanyu Xiong et al.

Summary: The authors report a method for achieving nearly 3000-fold signal enhancement using a photonic crystal surface. By enhancing excitation, improving quantum efficiency, and suppressing blinking, the approach enables high signal-to-noise ratio and single emitter sensitivity. The study also demonstrates the application of this method in miRNA biomarker sensing.

Optofluidic multiplex detection of single SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A antigens using a novel bright fluorescent probe assay

Alexandra Stambaugh et al.

Summary: The urgent need for a sensitive, specific, and rapid point-of-care diagnostic test has been highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, an ultrasensitive chip-based antigen test with single protein biomarker sensitivity was introduced for differentiated detection of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A antigens in nasopharyngeal samples. The assay demonstrated a spectrally multiplexed detection of both targets with single-antigen sensitivity at a concentration of 30 ng/mL.
