Ruminococcus gnavus ameliorates atopic dermatitis by enhancing Treg cell and metabolites in BALB/c mice

Jae-Rin Ahn et al.

Summary: Oral administration of R. gnavus significantly reduced AD-related parameters in mice, including skin water loss, clinical score, total serum immunoglobulin E level, OVA-specific IgE level, and skin inflammation. Treatment with R. gnavus also led to downregulation of T helper 2-related cytokines and upregulation of IL-10 and Foxp3 in the skin.

Oral tolerance: an updated review

Rafael M. Rezende et al.

Summary: Oral tolerance refers to the suppression of immune responses to an antigen when it is administrated orally. It can be achieved through T cell clonal depletion, anergy, and the generation of regulatory T cells. Oral antigen administration has been used to treat autoimmune diseases and inflammatory conditions in animal models, but its effectiveness in human trials is inconsistent. The gut microbiota may play a role in oral tolerance, but more research is needed.
