SoK: Run-time security for cloud microservices. Are we there yet?

Francesco Minna et al.

Summary: The adoption of microservice architecture is rapidly growing and brings both benefits and challenges to security. In this study, the researchers performed a systematic review of knowledge about the run-time security of microservices. They analyzed hundreds of papers and industry tools, categorized the findings, and identified areas where research is abundant or lacking. The study concludes that run-time security of microservices is still in its early stages and provides insights into addressing key challenges.

Stacking ensemble of machine learning methods for landslide susceptibility mapping in Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province, China

Yuke Huan et al.

Summary: The study compared the performance of six machine learning algorithms, including basic classifiers and their hybrid classifiers, to map the landslide susceptibility of Zhangjiajie City, China. The GBDT + LR model achieved the highest AUC value and was identified as the most efficient model, followed by XGB + LR, XGB, RF + LR, GBDT, and RF models. The study suggests that the stacking ensemble machine learning method is promising for landslide susceptibility mapping in the area.

Novel Intelligent Approach for the Early Warning of Rainfall-Type Landslides Based on the BRB Model

Man Huang et al.

Summary: This work aims to apply the belief rule-based model in information fusion method for landslides, to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of landslide early warning. By focusing on a typical rainfall-induced landslide, it is found that surface displacement is the most sensitive monitoring data. The monitoring data of surface displacement change rate and rainfall intensity are used as input parameters for the BRB model. An initial BRB model is established with a rule base for discriminating warning levels. The optimized BRB model accurately describes the nonlinear relationship between the selected monitoring data and warning levels, providing an intelligent approach for landslide prevention with significant potential.

Distributed Redundant Placement for Microservice-based Applications at the Edge

Hailiang Zhao et al.

Summary: Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is a promising paradigm that pushes computation and communication resources to the network edge. We propose a distributed redundant placement framework and a GA-based Server Selection (GASS) algorithm for microservice-based applications. Numerical results based on real-world dataset confirm the superiority of our proposed approach over benchmark policies.

Threshold Definition for Monitoring Gapa Landslide under Large Variations in Reservoir Level Using GNSS

Shuangshuang Wu et al.

Summary: The study recommends a velocity threshold for the early warning system of the Gapa landslide in Southwest China, defined by a novel method based on GNSS monitoring data. A crucial water level is also defined to reduce false alerts. The evolution process of the Gapa landslide and the warning level based on an improved deformation model are described, providing critical insights for the development of early warning systems for reservoir-induced large-scale landslides.

Large-Scale Analysis of Docker Images and Performance Implications for Container Storage Systems

Nannan Zhao et al.

Summary: Docker containers are popular for modern enterprise applications due to their isolation, low overhead, and efficient packaging. The analysis found that only 3% of files in images are unique, indicating potential for file-level deduplication to save storage space. Comprehensive analysis of I/O request performance and copy-on-write performance for popular container storage drivers can help improve data reduction and caching methods for images, optimizations for registries, and storage drivers.
