Neuroimaging of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Multimodal Imaging Approach for Acute Endovascular Therapy

Mohamad Abdalkader et al.

Summary: Advances in acute ischemic stroke treatment are dependent on innovations in neuroimaging. Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and prognosis of ischemic stroke, enabling triage decisions in emergent care. Current imaging protocols depend on resources and clinicians' preferences, and guidelines have lagged behind the rapidly growing evidence for selecting patients for treatment. This review discusses various imaging modalities and approaches used in the diagnosis and treatment of acute ischemic stroke.

Accuracy of Automated Computer-Aided Diagnosis for Stroke Imaging: A Critical Evaluation of Current Evidence

Joanna M. Wardlaw et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in using artificial intelligence in computer applications for medical imaging diagnosis, particularly in stroke. The use of AI methods can help in quickly and accurately diagnosing acute brain pathology, guiding treatment decisions, and improving treatment outcomes. However, diagnostic tools including AI methods are not subjected to the same clinical evaluation standards as drugs.

Endovascular Treatment After Stroke Due to Large Vessel Occlusion for Patients Presenting Very Late From Time Last Known Well

Beom Joon Kim et al.

Summary: Endovascular treatment may benefit patients with emergent large vessel occlusion and target mismatch profiles regardless of the time from onset. The study suggests that patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion presenting very late may benefit from EVT, but may have more hemorrhagic complications.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging-Guided Thrombolysis (0.6 mg/kg) Was Beneficial for Unknown Onset Stroke Above a Certain Core Size THAWS RCT Substudy

Kazunori Toyoda et al.

Summary: This study focused on low-dose thrombolysis in patients with unknown onset stroke and found that patients with DWI-ASPECTS of 5 to 8 were more likely to have favorable outcomes after treatment.

Hemodynamics of Leptomeningeal Collaterals after Large Vessel Occlusion and Blood Pressure Management with Endovascular Treatment

Beom Joon Kim et al.

Summary: Endovascular therapy is effective for treating ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion by enabling visualization of blood flow restoration. Survival of the ischemic brain before successful reperfusion relies on blood flow from leptomeningeal collaterals (LMC).

Loss odyssey in medical image segmentation

Jun Ma et al.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive review of segmentation loss functions in deep learning-based methods and conducts a large-scale analysis, finding that compound loss functions are the most robust. The study results suggest that no single loss function consistently outperforms others across different segmentation tasks.
