Behavioural intervention in medication overuse headache: A concealed double-blind randomized controlled trial

Judith A. Pijpers et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of behavioral intervention during medication withdrawal therapy. The results suggest that behavioral intervention by a headache nurse can reduce acute medication use during and shortly after the intervention. Further research is needed to determine the long-term effects.

Dependence-like behaviour in patients treated for medication overuse headache: A prospective open-label randomized controlled trial

Carolien Rouw et al.

Summary: Withdrawal combined with preventive medication from the start is the most effective treatment strategy for medication overuse headache (MOH) patients, reducing dependence-like behavior the most. While preventive treatment without withdrawal may initially be considered more feasible, there were no significant differences in feasibility between the three treatment arms during long-term follow-up.

Efficacy, tolerability, and safety of eptinezumab in patients with a dual diagnosis of chronic migraine and medication-overuse headache: Subgroup analysis of PROMISE-2

Hans-Christoph Diener et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of Eptinezumab in patients with dual diagnosis of CM and MOH, showing that Eptinezumab treatment led to greater reductions in monthly migraine days, higher responder rates, and fewer patients meeting CM and MOH criteria.
