Roles of the CXCL8-CXCR1/2 Axis in the Tumor Microenvironment and Immunotherapy

Zhi-Jian Han et al.

Summary: Interleukin-8 (IL-8 or CXCL8) plays multiple roles within the tumor microenvironment (TME), affecting various components of TME and influencing tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. CXCL8 could be used as a prognostic biomarker and targeting the CXCL8-CXCR1/2 axis shows promise in improving antitumor efficacy. Understanding the interactions between TME components and the CXCL8-CXCR1/2 axis is important for developing novel immunotherapy strategies.

Contribution of the mutation rs8193069 in TLR4 to mastitis resistance and performance in Holstein cows in southern China

Hongbo Chen et al.

Summary: Bovine mastitis has become a growing concern for farmers and consumers, causing significant economic losses in the dairy industry globally. A study in southern China identified a SNP in the TLR4 gene associated with lower somatic cell counts and higher milk yields in Holstein cows. This finding offers a potential marker for improving mastitis resistance in dairy cows in southern China.

Summary: Since 2013, selective dry cow treatment (SDCT) has been the standard approach in the Netherlands. This study aimed to provide insight into the methods and level of implementation of SDCT on Dutch dairy farms in 2016 and 2017. The study found that Dutch dairy farmers were able to handle the changed policy of antimicrobial use at drying-off while maintaining indicators of good udder health.

In Silico Tools for Analysis of Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms in the Bovine Transferrin Gene

Aarif Ali et al.

Summary: Dairy cattle with a high milk yield are susceptible to subclinical mastitis, and this study focused on the polymorphisms in the bovine transferrin gene for early detection and resistance. The sequencing results revealed nucleotide differences between susceptible cows and disease-free subjects, and in silico tools confirmed the impact on protein structure and function. Phylogenetic analysis showed close relations between the transferrin gene alleles and specific cattle breeds.

Summary: The study revealed an association between the PGLYRP1 gene polymorphism rs68268284 and somatic cell count (SCC) in Holstein cows, with cows carrying the TT genotype showing significantly lower SCC levels compared to CC and CT genotypes. Analysis also suggested that the rs68268284 polymorphism may impact the functionality of PGLYRP1 due to its location in a domain crucial for binding to other molecules.

GG genotype animals were found to be less susceptible to clinical mastitis, with lower somatic cell score and age at first calving, while AG genotype Murrah buffalo showed higher second lactation milk yield. GG genotype could be a promising candidate marker for genetic improvement of udder health and age at first calving in dairy animals.
