Pulmonary Fibrosis as a Result of Acute Lung Inflammation: Molecular Mechanisms, Relevant In Vivo Models, Prognostic and Therapeutic Approaches

Innokenty A. Savin et al.

Summary: Pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic lung disease that leads to lung damage and respiratory failure. The development of pulmonary fibrosis is associated with previous acute lung inflammation. The study of the molecular mechanisms underlying the transition from acute lung inflammation to pulmonary fibrosis and the search for new therapeutic targets are important for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis.

Cannabinoid Analogue WIN 55212-2 Protects Paraquat-Induced Lung Injury and Enhances Macrophage M2 Polarization

Quan He et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effects of WIN 55212-2 on paraquat-induced lung injury in mice. The results showed that WIN 55212-2 reduced the mortality of mice and decreased the number of inflammation-associated cells and pro-inflammatory factors in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid. Additionally, WIN 55212-2 increased the population of M2 cells, improved lung histology, and reduced fibrosis formation.

Natural product derived phytochemicals in managing acute lung injury by multiple mechanisms

Yu-Qiong He et al.

Summary: ALI and ARDS are common life-threatening lung diseases with high mortality rates, but there is still a lack of effective pharmacological therapies. Developing new drugs for therapy of ALI/ARDS is in great demand, as natural compounds have shown potential therapeutic effects and may also be helpful for treatment of COVID-19.

Summary: In this meta-analysis, it was found that FeNO and blood NO levels were significantly higher in lung cancer patients compared to control subjects; NMA model indicated that blood NO levels in all types of lung cancer were higher than those in control patients except SCLC; after therapy, FeNO levels increased and blood NO levels decreased in NSCLC patients.
