Age-related immune alterations and cerebrovascular inflammation

Carson E. Finger et al.

Summary: Aging is closely associated with chronic systemic inflammation and the development of various age-related diseases, including vascular disease. Poor outcomes after stroke in aged patients are predicted due to altered immune response, which differs from that of younger patients.

Microglia-Mediated Neuroinflammation: A Potential Target for the Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases

Menglong Wang et al.

Summary: Microglia play a crucial role in the central nervous system and targeting them can improve the prognosis of neurological diseases. Recent studies have also found a connection between microglia and cardiovascular diseases, with interventions regulating their activity modulating the incidence and progression of these diseases.

Microglial phagocytosis of neurons in neurodegeneration, and its regulation

Claire A. Butler et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that excessive microglial phagocytosis of live neurons and synapses contributes to neurodegeneration in animal models of various brain diseases. Factors regulating microglial phagocytosis of neurons could be potential treatment targets to prevent neurodegeneration induced by excessive microglial phagocytosis of live neurons and synapses.

Neuroinflammatory astrocyte subtypes in the mouse brain

Philip Hasel et al.

Summary: This study investigated the transcriptome changes of mouse cortical astrocytes after an acute inflammatory stimulus, revealing rapid and drastic changes over time. By sequencing thousands of astrocytes at single-cell resolution, it was shown that inflammation causes a widespread response with distinct subtypes undergoing inflammatory transitions with defined transcriptomic profiles. Spatial transcriptomics and in situ hybridization were used to attribute specific inflammation-induced reactive astrocyte sub-states to certain brain regions.

Janus Kinase Inhibition Ameliorates Ischemic Stroke Injury and Neuroinflammation Through Reducing NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation via JAK2/STAT3 Pathway Inhibition

Hua Zhu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that Ruxolitinib has a neuroprotective effect on ischemic stroke by inhibiting the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway, reducing the expression of NLRP3 inflammasome and alleviating stroke injury.
