Oxygen Vacancy-Mediated Selective C-N Coupling toward Electrocatalytic Urea Synthesis

Xiaoxiao Wei et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method for synthesizing urea at ambient conditions, which improves the efficiency of the C-N coupling reaction by stabilizing the crucial intermediate through the insertion of oxygen vacancies. The existence of oxygen vacancy-mediated selective C-N coupling reaction is verified through in situ spectroscopy techniques. The introduction of oxygen vacancies transforms the common catalyst carrier into an efficient electrocatalyst, with a higher urea yield rate compared to partial noble-metal-based electrocatalysts.

Catalytic hydrogenolysis of lignin in ethanol/isopropanol over an activated carbon supported nickel-copper catalyst

Chongbo Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, catalytic hydrogenolysis of organosolv poplar lignin was conducted using NiCu/C catalysts in ethanol/isopropanol solvent, achieving high yields of phenolic monomers. The introduction of Cu in catalysts promoted the hydrogen donor process of the solvent and facilitated the cleavage of lignin linkages, resulting in decreased molecular weight of bio-oil. The possible lignin dimer type structures were proposed and identified by MALDI-TOF MS, providing a better understanding of NiCu/C catalyzed lignin depolymerization.

Damiano Ricciarelli et al.

Summary: The study investigates the competition between energy and charge transfer in sensitizing dopant luminescence in Mn-doped lead halide perovskites through state-of-the-art DFT calculations. It reveals that the charge transfer mechanism is likely preferred in Mn:CsPbCl3, while bandgap resonance can explain energy transfer effectively. The host band edge energetics, tuned by the nature of the halide X, play a crucial role in mediating both aspects of dopant luminescence.

Summary: The depolymerization and demethoxylation of Kraft lignin (KL) was achieved using a novel H-NiFe2O4 catalyst under mild conditions, with high liquid product yield and minimal coke yield. The catalytic performance of H-NiFe2O4 benefits from the synergy of Ni and Fe, promoting lignin depolymerization while suppressing condensation reactions. Plausible reaction pathways of KL depolymerization over H-NiFe2O4 are discussed, demonstrating the potential of this catalytic system for efficient conversion of KL into liquid fuels.
