Research of asphalt-cement materials used for shield tunnel backfill grouting and effect on anti-seismic performance of tunnels

Qi Yang et al.

Summary: Backfill grouting with asphalt-cement (A-C) materials in shield tunnels was studied in this research. The results showed that A-C materials can significantly reduce the maximum principal stress peaks of tunnel linings, improving their seismic performance compared to conventional backfill grouting materials.

Preparation and engineering properties of alkali-activated filling grouts for shield tunnel

Weilong Song et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the performance of alkali-activated grouts and recommended two representative types, showing that the AAG can be flexibly selected and adjusted according to specific construction needs, with excellent working and hardening properties. Compared to typical OPC-based grout, AAG-I demonstrated superior engineering performance.

Bentonite in two-component grout applications

Carmine Todaro et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the role of bentonite in two-component grout and its impact on the material properties. The activation of bentonite was found to affect the stability of mortar and strength of grout. The swelling index and Atterberg's liquid limit were identified as important parameters for selecting suitable materials.

Correction Factor on Dynamic Force in a Marsh Funnel Test for Tunneling

Dongzhu Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper presents an improved model for predicting the rheological properties of bentonite slurries in slurry shield tunneling. The improvement focuses on predicting the dynamic part of fluids with small MF times, and the performance of the model is confirmed through comparisons with experiments.

Study on temporary filling material of synchronous grouting in the middle of shield

Yu Wan et al.

Summary: Ground surface settlement is inevitable during shield tunneling due to over excavation by the shield machine and the annular gap between the shield and surrounding soils. Clay shock, a two-component grouting material, can be used to fill the shield-out space. Laboratory tests showed that the viscosity and mechanical strength of clay shock can be influenced by additives, and the chemical reaction between sodium silicate and bentonite is affected by water content.

A New Model for Predicting the Marsh Funnel Test

Dongzhu Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new model for predicting fluid flow through a Marsh funnel, based on the Herschel-Bulkley fluid model. The model considers both friction force and dynamic force, and an improved testing system is proposed for validation. Experimental results show good agreement between experiments and model predictions, with the model slightly underpredicting the Marsh funnel time but performing well overall.
