Unexpected (123I)FP-CIT SPECT findings: SWIDD, SWEDD and all DAT

Summary: Although the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease relies on clinical presentation, the use of imaging techniques, particularly DAT imaging, can aid in differential diagnosis. Structural lesions and certain medications may alter the results of DAT imaging, and unexpected findings such as SWEDD or SWIDD should be considered.

Dopamine transporter binding in symptomatic controls and healthy volunteers: Considerations for neuroimaging trials

Summary: This study evaluated differences in brain dopamine transporter (DAT) binding between symptomatic parkinsonism patients and healthy individuals, finding higher DAT binding in the posterior putamen of symptomatic patients compared to controls. DAT binding correlated negatively with age in both groups, but not with motor symptom severity, cognitive function, or depression ratings.
