Preparation of Hydroxyapatite-Titanium Dioxide Composite from Eggshell by Hydrothermal Method: Characterization and Antibacterial Activity

Atiek Rostika Noviyanti et al.

Summary: In this study, hydroxyapatite (HA) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) composites were prepared using the hydrothermal method. The structure and properties of the composites were characterized by XRD, FTIR, and SEM, and it was found that TiO2 plays a significant role in determining the properties of HA. The composite also showed good antibacterial activity.

Surface coating of orthopedic implant to enhance the osseointegration and reduction of bacterial colonization: a review

Smriti Bohara et al.

Summary: The use of orthopedic implants in surgical technology has led to the restoration of physiological functions. However, there are various complications and limitations associated with these implants. Advancements in coating materials have shown potential in preventing implant failure, but most of these materials have not been successful in clinical tests. Implant failure rates have increased, resulting in physical discomfort and economic burdens. The development of systematic coating techniques has shown promising results in combating infection and enhancing bone integration.

The Use of Calcium Phosphates in Cosmetics, State of the Art and Future Perspectives

Francesca Carella et al.

Summary: Calcium phosphates (CaPs) are biomimetic materials widely used in medical applications due to their excellent properties, and there is a recent trend in substituting potentially hazardous materials with natural, safe, and sustainable ingredients in cosmetics. This review categorizes the properties and uses of CaPs in cosmetics, focusing on their applications in oral care, skin care, hair care, and odor control, and highlights the correlation between their chemical, physical, and toxicological properties with final applications. Future challenges for the scientific community and cosmetics companies in expanding the application of CaPs in cosmetics are also discussed.

Hydrothermal synthesis of hydroxyapatite powders using Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

Shamsi Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: Hydroxyapatite nanopowder was synthesized using a hydrothermal technique, and its chemical structure and morphology were analyzed by FTIR, TEM, and XRD. The optimal conditions for yield, size, and crystallinity were determined using RSM and CCD, with pH showing the greatest influence on the properties of the synthesized hydroxyapatite. Bioactivity evaluation demonstrated high bioactivity of the synthesized nanopowder.

Improvement of Drug-Loading Properties of Hydroxyapatite Particles Using Triethylamine as a Capping Agent: A Novel Approach

Yi Wen et al.

Summary: The study presented a novel approach using triethylamine as a capping agent to prepare micro/nano-sized agglomerates of HAP nanocrystals with improved drug loading and drug release profile. The use of TEA in ethanol system led to smaller particle size, better dispersion, and higher crystallinity of HAPs. The drug-loading experiments showed promising results for potential application in drug delivery.
