The enhanced of magnetic and electrical properties of Bi5FeTi3O15 compound with replacing Co for Ti sites

M. Nazemian et al.

Summary: In this study, four-layered Aurivillius Bi5FeTi3-xCoxO15 compounds were prepared using the sol-gel method to investigate the effect of Co substitution for Ti on the magnetic and electrical properties of Bi5FeTi3O15. X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement were used to analyze the phase formation and crystal structure of the compounds. Field emission scanning electron microscope confirmed the plate-like grain structure of the particles. By substituting Ti sites with Co ions, the magnetic behavior of BFT changed from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic. The highest remanent magnetization value at room temperature was 0.67 emu/g in the cobalt substituted sample with x = 0.6. The enhancement of both magnetic and electrical properties in the studied samples suggests potential practical applications.

Breakdown field enhancement and energy storage performance in four-layered Aurivillius films

Jiaxin Sun et al.

Summary: By co-doping La3+ and Pr3+ ions, four-layered Aurivillius phase ferroelectric thin films capacitors achieved larger recoverable energy density and higher efficiency due to the enhanced breakdown electric field. The doped films annealed at relatively low temperatures showed similar energy storage properties with the prototype and higher energy storage efficiency compared to the higher annealing films.

Summary: An improved technique was used to prepare ceramic samples of Bi5.75R0.25Fe1.4Ni0.6Ti3O18 with a five-layer Aurivillius phase, exhibiting both ferroelectric and magnetic properties. With an increase in the radius of the A-site ions, the ferroelectric phase transition temperature decreases, while the magnetic phase transition temperature fluctuates.

Tailoring the ferroelectric and magnetic properties of Bi5Ti3FeO15 ceramics by doping with Co and Y

Jelena Bobic et al.

Summary: The ferroelectric and magnetic properties of four-layered Aurivillius Bi5Ti3FeO15 (BFT) compounds were investigated by partially substituting Bi3+ with Y3+ and Fe3+ with Co2+. Y3+ replaces Bi ions in the pseudoperovskite layers and Co2+ replaces Fe ions in the octahedral sites. The chemically modified samples show a decrease in grain size, and Co substituted BFT ceramics exhibit ferromagnetic behavior.

Room-temperature multiferroic behaviour in Co/Fe co-substituted layer-structured Aurivillius phase ceramics

Mahmoud S. Alkathy et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of Fe/Co co-substitution on the multiferroic properties of BSmT, revealing ferromagnetic and ferroelectric behavior at room temperature, with the sample at x = 0.4 exhibiting the highest magnetization values. The interaction between oxygen vacancies and magnetic ions contributes to the occurrence of magnetism, while the reversible polarization induced by an electric field demonstrates the ferroelectric nature of the ceramics.

Electrical and magnetic studies on promising Aurivillius intergrowth compound

Vadla Veenachary et al.

Summary: Aurivillius intergrowth multiferroic phases have attracted the interest of researchers due to their scientific and technological applications. In this study, the synthesis and characterization of the intergrowth compound Bi3.25La0.75Ti3O12 (BLT) and Bi4NdTi3Fe0.7Co0.3O15 (BNTF) were conducted. The results showed a signature of intergrowth formation, non-uniform grain morphology, and preferential hopping mechanism. The compound also exhibited weak ferromagnetic order and a high ME coefficient, making it potentially useful for room temperature magnetoelectric sensors.
