Microstructure and mechanical properties of multi-scale ?-Fe reinforced Cu-Fe composite produced by vacuum suction casting

Yanjun Ding et al.

Summary: Cu-10Fe composites were produced by vacuum suction casting and traditional vacuum mold casting, and the evolution of their microstructure and properties during cold rolling and aging processes was analyzed. The suction-casted composite exhibited improved mechanical properties compared to the traditional mold-casted composite, with a microhardness of 146 HV, tensile strength of 526 MPa, and elongation of 23.7%. The higher softening temperature of the suction-casted composite (520 degrees C) was attributed to the refinement of the Cu matrix and the formation of multi-scale alpha-Fe particles through solute trapping during vacuum suction casting. The yield strength of the composites was mainly influenced by Orowan strengthening, refinement strengthening, and dislocations strengthening, contributing 31.1%, 25.8%, and 24.1%, respectively.

Characterizations on Precipitations in the Cu-Rich Corner of Cu-Ni-Al Ternary Phase Diagram

Yongxin Zhou et al.

Summary: Three Cu-Ni-Al alloys were prepared and subjected to solution and aging treatments. The formation process of Ni-Al intermetallics was discussed. The results showed the presence of NiAl phase at the grain boundary and Ni3Al phase inside the Cu matrix in all as-cast alloys, although they were in the single-phase region. Solution and aging treatments led to the disappearance and precipitation of Ni3Al phase, with smaller precipitations during aging. Thermodynamics and kinetics calculations explained the dominance of NiAl intermetallics during solidification and the precipitation of Ni3Al phase during aging due to its lower formation enthalpy and required Al concentration.

Effect of Cr addition on corrosion behavior of cupronickel alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution

Shifang Li et al.

Summary: Cu-10Ni-1.6Fe-0.5Mn-0.3Cr alloy has better corrosion resistance performance compared to Cu-10Ni-1.6Fe-0.5Mn alloy in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, which is mainly attributed to the incorporation of Cr ions during corrosion.

Orientation relationships between precipitates and matrix and their crystallographic transformation in a Cu-Cr-Zr alloy

Chengdong Xia et al.

Summary: The orientation relationships between Cr precipitates and matrix in a Cu-Cr-Zr alloy were investigated, and the crystallographic transformations of orientation relationships were analyzed. Four kinds of orientation relationships were detected, including the coexistence of Cr precipitates with Nishiyama-Wassermann relationship and Pitsch relationship in the peak-aged alloy.

Microstructure and properties of Cu-Cr-Zr alloy with columnar crystal structure processed by upward continuous casting

Jinshui Chen et al.

Summary: Columnar crystal structure was formed in the Cu-Cr-Zr alloy during thermo-mechanical treatment, resulting in optimized microstructure and significantly refined grains. The alloy with columnar crystal structure and higher Zr content exhibited improved mechanical properties, while maintaining relatively stable electrical conductivity. The ultimate tensile strength was significantly higher after cold drawing in the alloy with a higher Zr content. Discussions and conclusions were made regarding the grain refinement mechanism and strengthening mechanism.

Solid-state synthesis, dewetting, and magnetic and structural characterization of interfacial FexSn1-x layers in Sn/Fe(001) thin films

V. G. Myagkov et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phase formation sequences in 9Sn/91Fe(001) and 25Sn/75Fe(001) bilayers during thin-film solid-state reactions, revealing the sequential formation of various intermetallic phases at different initiation temperatures. It also identified low-temperature transformations not present in the phase equilibrium diagram of the Fe-Sn system and observed solid-state dewetting of the bilayers at temperatures above 550 degrees C. Overall, this work provides new insights into intermetallic phase synthesis and transformations in Sn/Fe(001) thin films.

Enhanced electrical conductivity and mechanical properties in thermally stable fine-grained copper wire

Qingzhong Mao et al.

Summary: Strength and electrical conductivity are generally mutually exclusive properties in copper wires, but copper wires manufactured using rotary swaging overcome this tradeoff. By directionally optimizing the microstructure, the copper wire exhibits high strength, high electrical conductivity, and thermal stability simultaneously.
