Characterizing combustion and atomization of PODEn and ethanol/PODEn binary droplets

Bingyao Huang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the combustion and atomization characteristics of PODEn (n=1-4) and ethanol/PODEn binary droplets. Three different behaviors - puffing, ejection, and micro-explosion - are observed in the atomization stage of the binary droplets with a Delta Tbp generally greater than 50 K. The atomization index peaks at 70% PODE1 for PODE1/PODE4 binary droplets and at 50% ethanol for ethanol/PODE4 binary droplets. The ethanol/PODEn binary droplets generally have higher micro-explosion intensities and stronger atomization propensities than the PODEn binary droplets.

Characterization of microstructure and passive film difference of FeCrMoCB amorphous coatings affected by feedstock specific surface area

Lintao Wu et al.

Summary: Two kinds of FeCrMoCB amorphous coatings were prepared from different specific surface area feedstock. The microstructures and corrosion resistance of the coatings were investigated. It was found that the feedstock oxidation influenced the coating wettability, passive film formation mechanism, and properties. The coatings prepared from smaller specific surface area feedstock exhibited a superior passive film structure and lower donor density. The accurate selection of feedstock is of great significance for the performance of various coatings.

Review of dual-fuel combustion in the compression-ignition engine: Spray, combustion, and emission

Quangkhai Pham et al.

Summary: The performance, combustion, and emission characteristics of alternative fuels in dual-fuel mode in compression ignition engines have been thoroughly analyzed. Generally, alternative fuels improve brake specific energy consumption compared to baseline diesel mode but have lower brake thermal efficiency and volumetric efficiency.

On explosive boiling of a multicomponent Leidenfrost drop

Sijia Lyu et al.

Summary: The explosive gasification process of a tricomponent droplet is studied, revealing that the preferential evaporation of ethanol triggers the coalescence of oil microdroplets, forming an opaque oil-in-water emulsion which eventually leads to the droplet explosion.

Competing Marangoni and Rayleigh convection in evaporating binary droplets

Christian Diddens et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that in evaporating binary sessile and pendant droplets, gravity and natural convection can be the dominant driving mechanisms for flow. A quasi-stationary model has been derived and validated to predict the prevalence and intriguing interaction of Rayleigh and/or Marangoni convection based on a phase diagram for the flow field expressed in terms of the Rayleigh and Marangoni numbers.

An Experimental Study on the Phenomena inside the Burning Aviation Kerosene Droplet

He Ming et al.

Summary: This experimental study focused on the behavior characteristics of burning aviation kerosene droplets, revealing that the Marangoni effect induced by surface tension gradient has a significant impact on internal flow. The experiments showed non-uniform amplitude characteristics of capillary waves on the droplet surface.

Leucine as an excipient in spray dried powder for inhalation

Nasser Alhajj et al.

Summary: Leucine is a promising excipient in the development of inhalable spray-dried powders, enhancing aerosolization and physical stability of particles. Understanding how formulation and processing parameters influence leucine's behavior during drying process is crucial for efficient utilization in dry powder inhaler formulations and other pharmaceutical applications. Insights into the current regulatory status are important for future applications.
