Anila Sebastian et al.

Summary: The number of people with diabetes has been increasing globally, affecting individuals of all ages. Long-term diabetes sufferers are prone to a condition called Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), which causes damage to the eyes. Early detection through automatic detection using new technologies can help prevent complications such as vision loss. Deep Learning (DL) methods, a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI), are widely used for developing DR detection systems. This study surveys existing literature and describes current DL techniques used by researchers in this field, followed by a comparison of performance using commonly used metrics in computer vision tasks.
