Improved resampling algorithm through a modified oversampling approach based on spectral clustering and SMOTE

Pankaj Kumar Jadwal et al.

Summary: Generating optimal results from imbalanced datasets is crucial for supervised machine learning models. This research proposes a novel oversampling algorithm called Spectral SMOTE, which uses spectral clustering as a preprocessing step to segment the dataset into optimal clusters. This algorithm resolves the within and between class imbalance problem by segregating the whole dataset into clusters regardless of class labels. Furthermore, SMOTE is applied on sparse areas to avoid the generation of noise. Experimental results on P2P lending datasets demonstrate the superior performance of Spectral SMOTE compared to traditional SMOTE and its variants.

Weighted Ensemble with one-class Classification and Over-sampling and Instance selection (WECOI): An approach for learning from imbalanced data streams

Ireneusz Czarnowski

Summary: This paper proposes a new approach for learning from data streams to tackle the problem of class-imbalanced data. By using weighted ensemble, over-sampling, and instance selection techniques, the class distribution is changed to achieve a more balanced dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed approach can enhance the performance of online learning algorithms.
