Effects of Time Constraints and Goal Setting on Basketball Shooting

Jason Kostrna

Summary: This study examined the effects of time constraints on anxiety, attention, performance, and mechanics of basketball free-throw shooting. The results showed that participants performed better in untimed conditions compared to timed conditions, and the goal-oriented condition had similar performance to the untimed condition. Additionally, joint consistency in the elbow and knee increased in the untimed condition.

Study on eye movement characteristics and intervention of basketball shooting skill

Qifeng Gou et al.

Summary: This study found that the shooting aiming point in basketball has an impact on FG%. Aiming at the front edge of the hoop leads to a higher FG%. Training in shooting aiming points can improve FG% more quickly, and significant improvements can be seen after 9 weeks of practice.

Biomechanical Adjustments of the Basketball Jump Shot Performed over Differently High Opponents

Tim Kambic et al.

Summary: This research examines the biomechanical adjustments of the jump shot in the presence of opponents of different heights. The study findings show that when shooting over opponents who are 40 cm taller, jump height and ball entry angle increase, but shooting efficiency decreases. When participants performed the maximum height jump shot, they recorded the highest jump height and the lowest angle of entry.

Head-fake perception in basketball: the relative contributions of expertise, visual or motor training, and test repetition

Iris Guldenpenning et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relative impact of visual and motor experience on the processing of the head fake in basketball. The results showed that the head-fake effect can be reduced with either visual or motor training interventions, and even a waiting-control group showed similar improvements. Moreover, after a single test session, the head-fake effect approached the level of experts. A small amount of practice is sufficient to reduce the head-fake effect, although it cannot be fully abolished.

Summary: A intelligent visual image decomposition method and motion recognition technique were proposed to address the challenges of image decomposition related to basketball projection angle and improve the accuracy of human motion recognition. Experimental results demonstrated that both techniques exhibited high recognition accuracy on different datasets.

The Relationship of Intra-Individual Release Variability with Distance and Shooting Performance in Basketball

Nathan Slegers et al.

Summary: Through analyzing the shooting performance of basketball players, this study found that the stability of release velocity plays a key role in shooting performance, while the stability of release angle is unrelated to performance. Velocity-dependent factors have minimal contribution to shooting strategies.
