A global eddy-resolving ocean forecast system in China - LICOM Forecast System (LFS)

LICOM3-CUDA: a GPU version of LASG/IAP climate system ocean model version 3 based on CUDA

Summary: The goal of this study is to develop and optimize a GPU version of LICOM3, called LICOM3-CUDA, based on CUDA. By redesigning numerical algorithms, decoupling data dependency, avoiding memory write conflicts, and optimizing communication, the researchers achieved more efficient ocean circulation simulation. Experimental results showed that LICOM3-CUDA runs significantly faster than LICOM3, with a speedup of 6.5 times and a reduction of 41.3% in energy consumption.
