Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Flexural Properties and Damage Behavior of CFRTP/Al Laminates with Different Stacking Sequence

Shiyi Gao et al.

Summary: The properties and failure modes of CARALLs, which are composed of carbon fiber reinforced composites and aluminum laminates, were studied using experimental and numerical simulation analysis. The bending behavior of CARALLs with different composite/metal layer methods was examined, and FMLs with a stacking sequence of 2/1 showed the highest bending modulus and strength. The simulation results were consistent with the experimental results, providing more insight into the bending behavior of CARALLs hybrids.

Local anti-ablation modification of uneven-density C/C composites with the ZrC-SiC composite ceramics

Lei Zhong et al.

Summary: To reduce cost and preparation time, uneven-density C/C composites are designed and prepared using thermal gradient CVI process, followed by local modification of ZrC-SiC composite ceramics to enhance anti-ablation performance. Ablation tests demonstrate that the microstructure of ZrO2 grains can be influenced by adjusting ablation temperature and ZrO2 grains' melting point. Optimum performance is achieved with approximately 20 wt% SiC content in the ZrC-SiC composite ceramics and improves the uneven C/C composites prepared. Additionally, the dense C/C matrix prevents liquid ZrO2-SiO2 phase runoff and allows for protection of carbon fibers and the dense C/C matrix beneath.

Impact Properties of Novel Natural Fibre Metal Laminated Composite Materials

Luciano Machado Gomes Vieira et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact behavior of sisal fiber-reinforced aluminium laminates (SiRAL) in fibre metal laminates (FMLs). It is found that the orientations of the fibres, the composite core used and the surface treatment of the metal skins have significant effects on the properties of SiRAL. The +/- 45 degrees core treated SiRAL demonstrates the highest energy absorption and deflection properties.

Multi-objective optimization of composite sandwich panels using lamination parameters and spectral Chebyshev method

Farzad Seyyedrahmani et al.

Summary: In this study, an accurate and efficient framework is developed to optimize the design of laminated sandwich panels. Genetic algorithm is used to determine Pareto-optimal solutions for various performance metrics. The results provide insights into the design requirements for improving the dynamic and load-carrying behavior of sandwich laminates.

Buckling Analysis of a Composite Honeycomb Reinforced Sandwich Embedded with Viscoelastic Damping Material

Dezhong Qi et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the buckling loads of a composite sandwich structure filled with viscoelastic damping material under axial compression. By applying the von Karman anisotropic plate equations and a double triangular series, the governing equation and deflection of the structure are determined. The study discusses factors that influence the buckling loads and validates the results with existing literature.

Improved strategies for the load-bearing capacity of aluminum-PVC foam sandwich floors of a high-speed train

Haifeng Chang et al.

Summary: This study developed a floor model incorporating crushable foam layer and cohesive element to analyze the load-bearing capacity of high-speed train floors. Two strategies to improve load-bearing capacity were proposed: adding stiffened ribs and adjusting supporting seat layout. Numerical simulations demonstrated significant reduction in stress and deflection in critical areas by modifying seat layout or adding reinforced structures.

Optimized epoxy foam interface of CFRP/Epoxy Foam/CFRP sandwich composites for improving compressive and impact properties

Dong-Jun Kwon et al.

Summary: This study investigated the optimal manufacturing conditions of epoxy foam to enhance the mechanical performance of carbon fiber reinforced plastic sandwich composites for vehicle parts. The study found that the foam cured at 60 degrees Celsius exhibited the most stable properties after thermal aging at 180 degrees Celsius. The performance of the sandwich composites was improved by optimizing the cell condition of the foam.
