Summary: Caffeic acid is a polyphenol compound that is commonly consumed in the form of coffee. Despite being less explored than caffeic acid phenethyl ester, it still has various positive effects on human health. Caffeic acid can influence cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, as well as bacterial and viral infections. This review focuses on the molecular mechanisms through which caffeic acid achieves its effects.

Summary: In this study, a microbial consortium was screened for its efficacy in degrading LDPE/TPS. The consortium was composed of bacteria and fungi isolated from activated sludge, river sediment, and compost. The experiments showed that the microorganisms were able to degrade polymeric materials, with the mixed culture completely degrading TPS. The weight loss and analysis results demonstrated that degradation was more intense in the experiment using microorganisms from compost.

Summary: Natural products, including primary metabolites (PMs) and secondary metabolites (SMs), play crucial roles in plant growth, reproduction, defense, and adaptation. SMs, including terpenoids, phenolics, and nitrogen-containing compounds, possess various biological activities and can be used as flavoring agents, food additives, and plant-disease control. This review focuses on the significance, biosynthesis, classification, biochemical characterization, and medical/pharmaceutical uses of plant SMs. Additionally, the potential of SMs as eco-friendly substitutes for synthetic pesticides and their role in enhancing plant resistance are discussed.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential antioxidant, phytochemical, and antimicrobial properties of aniseed extracts against multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. The results showed that aniseed extracts contain various compounds that contribute to their antimicrobial activity, mainly phenolic compounds and flavonoids. Moreover, aniseed extracts demonstrated strong antioxidant activity and inhibited the growth of MDR bacteria.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the presence of antibiotic resistance genes previously reported in Helicobacter pylori in gastric samples from 36 pigs where DNA of H. pylori-like organisms had been detected. Based on PCR and sequencing analysis, two samples were positive for the 16S rRNA mutation gene conferring tetracycline resistance, and one sample was positive for the frxA gene conferring metronidazole resistance. These findings indicate the potential occurrence of acquired antimicrobial resistance in H. pylori-like organisms associated with pigs.

Summary: The phenolic compounds from different parts of Lysimachia nummularia L. plant were analyzed using HPLC technique. The extracts from root, aerial part, and flowers were obtained through ethanol extraction and their polyphenol content and antioxidant activity were evaluated. The hydroethanolic extract from flowers showed the highest content of total polyphenols (22.10 +/- 1.48 mg/g gallic acid) and exhibited remarkable antioxidant activity.
