Radix Tetrastigma Inhibits the Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer via Bax/Bcl-2/Caspase-9/Caspase-3 Pathway

Yonglu Li et al.

Summary: Lung cancer is a challenging global problem with high mortality, and traditional Chinese herb Radix Tetrastigma (RT) is now considered as a functional food with excellent anti-tumor ability, inhibiting non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) through the Bax/Bcl2/Caspase-9/Caspase-3 pathway. Further studies showed that the main flavonoid components from RT, especially kaempferol-3-O-rutinoside, play a key role in its outstanding anti-NSCLC ability.

Characterization and anti-inflammation of a polysaccharide produced by Chaetomium globosum CGMCC 6882 on LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells

Zichao Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a polysaccharide (CGP-BG) was successfully produced from waste distillers' grain by Chaetomium globosum CGMCC 6882. The chemical analysis showed that CGP-BG contained a good protein content. CGP-BG demonstrated scavenging activities on various radicals and inhibited inflammation and oxidative stress, suggesting its potential application as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Ginsenoside Rh1 Induces MCF-7 Cell Apoptosis and Autophagic Cell Death through ROS-Mediated Akt Signaling

Huynh Diem Thi Ngoc et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the most common cause of cancer-related deaths among women globally. Ginsenoside Rh1 exhibits potential anticancer effects on breast cancer cells by inducing cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and autophagy via inhibition of the ROS-mediated PI3K/Akt pathway.

The double-edged roles of ROS in cancer prevention and therapy

Yawei Wang et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) act as cell signaling molecules generated in oxidative metabolism and are associated with various human diseases. Abnormal accumulation of ROS in cancer cells leads to tumor progression and metastasis. Understanding the dual roles of ROS in tumor growth, metastasis, and apoptosis, as well as related signal transduction networks and anticancer therapies is crucial in conquering cancer.
