An Automatic Procedure for Overheated Idler Detection in Belt Conveyors Using Fusion of Infrared and RGB Images Acquired during UGV Robot Inspection

Przemyslaw Dabek et al.

Summary: Proper maintenance is crucial for complex mechanical systems used in the mining industry. This paper proposes the use of monitoring systems and autonomous inspection robots to support inspection procedures in harsh conditions. The authors also propose a method using image fusion and processing techniques to detect overheated idlers and have conducted experiments to validate its effectiveness.

Research on On-Line Monitoring System of Hydraulic Actuator of Combine Harvester

Ruichuan Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated online monitoring methods for hydraulic actuating parts in combine harvesters. Mathematical and simulation models were established to analyze the hydraulic system and diagnose faults in real time. The online monitoring system, designed using LabView, successfully collected and displayed working parameters, and provided fault alarms. Experimental results demonstrated the system's effectiveness and accuracy, significantly improving the efficiency of combine harvesters.

Design of an Infrared Image Processing Pipeline for Robotic Inspection of Conveyor Systems in Opencast Mining Sites

Mohammad Siami et al.

Summary: Conveying systems are crucial for the horizontal transportation of raw materials in mining sites. Traditionally, inspecting the components of these systems, especially idlers, is labor-intensive and hazardous. To address this issue, this paper proposes a robot-based thermography approach for the automatic detection and analysis of overheated idlers using infrared image processing. The approach involves the analysis and preprocessing of captured infrared images, extracting the location of thermal anomalies, and validating the segmentation results. The method has been quantitatively evaluated and found to be applicable for condition monitoring of belt conveyor idlers in open-cast mining sites.

Inspection Robotic UGV Platform and the Procedure for an Acoustic Signal-Based Fault Detection in Belt Conveyor Idler

Hamid Shiri et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of an inspection robot to capture acoustic signals for monitoring bearing damage in belt conveyor idlers, with signal processing techniques used for analysis. The research found that while damage signatures can be identified in the signal, automatic fault detection remains challenging due to sound disturbances. The application of the inspection robot can improve safety during the inspection process.

Analysis of Reasons for Reduced Strength of Multiply Conveyor Belt Splices

Miroslaw Bajda et al.

Summary: Belt conveyors are mainly used for the transportation of bulk materials in various industries, with the belt being the key component consisting of a core, covers, and edges. The most commonly used type is the multiply textile belt, which is constructed with synthetic fibers and provides the necessary strength for conveying materials.

Generating of Electric Energy by a Declined Overburden Conveyor in a Continuous Surface Mine

Witold Kawalec et al.

Summary: Exploitation of lignite in continuous surface mines requires significant energy consumption, but by converting the potential gravitational energy of conveyed overburden into electric energy, environmental impact can be reduced and energy consumption can be saved. Investing in regenerative inverters for powering the overburden conveyor can pay off within a few years.
