Understanding dental caries as a non-communicable disease

Nigel B. Pitts et al.

Summary: Recent advances in the science of dental caries have led to a deeper understanding of the disease, shifting the focus towards controlling risk factors and maintaining a balanced oral microbiome. Dental caries is now classified as a non-communicable disease, sharing similar risk factors with other chronic conditions and providing opportunities for common prevention strategies. Interventions for preventing and controlling caries should be integrated across different levels to also help control other non-communicable diseases.

Hydroxyapatite in Oral Care Products-A Review

Lijie Chen et al.

Summary: This article critically evaluates current research on HA oral care, discussing the role and mechanism of HA in remineralization of both enamel and dentine, as well as in suppressing dentine sensitivity. It also emphasizes HA's role in biofilm management and summarizes recent achievements in commercialized HA dental products.

Comparative Study of Technologies for Tubule Occlusion and Treatment of Dentin Hypersensitivity

Camilla Berg et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the performance of a tooth-desensitizing gel containing ACMP particles, comparing it to six other desensitizing products. The gel was the only product to completely occlude and mineralize the dentin, while other products resulted in partial occlusion through particle deposition. Sensodyne Repair & Protect and Oral-B Pro-Expert showed the highest resistance to acid attacks, with material inside the tubules remaining relatively unaffected. The results suggest that the ACMP desensitizing gel may be a superior option for treating dentin hypersensitivity.
