Pharmacophore Modeling Using Machine Learning for Screening the Blood-Brain Barrier Permeation of Xenobiotics

Saurav Kumar et al.

Summary: Daily exposure to xenobiotics can have harmful effects on human health, particularly on the nervous system and can lead to neurodegenerative diseases. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) provides protection to the nervous system, allowing only molecules with suitable physicochemical properties to permeate it. In silico methods are being used to reduce animal testing and the time complexity of in vitro screening, but most of these methods only consider the physicochemical properties of ligands. This study investigated the influence of the pharmacophoric features of protein-ligand interactions on BBB permeation and found that ligand-based pharmacophore fingerprints achieved slightly better performance compared to classical fingerprints.

Operation of the Egyptian Power Grid with Maximum Penetration Level of Renewable Energies Using Corona Virus Optimization Algorithm

Hady H. Fayek et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel algorithm, called the Corona Virus Algorithm (CVO), to optimally operate the Egyptian grid with maximum renewable power generation. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is compared to the Teaching and Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) algorithm in terms of voltage deviation, power losses, and share of renewable energies. The results demonstrate that the CVO algorithm outperforms the TLBO algorithm in maximizing the use of renewable energies in the grid. This research is significant for the Egyptian government in achieving their targets for renewable energy penetration.

Optimal Sizing of Energy Storage System for Operation of Wind Farms Considering Grid-Code Constraints

Van-Hai Bui et al.

Summary: Transmission system operators impose grid-code constraints on large-scale wind farms to ensure power system stability. Wind farm operators may face penalties for violating these constraints, leading to a decrease in net profit. Utilizing energy storage systems and optimization algorithms can help in meeting grid-code constraints and reducing overall costs, while determining the optimal size of the energy storage systems.
