Assessing the Potential of Heat Pumps to Reduce the Radiator Size on Small Satellites

Nick S. Bennett et al.

Summary: Future small satellites require high-performance on-board electronics and advanced heat rejection approaches. Increasing the surface temperature of the radiator using a heat pump is a promising alternative method. This study investigates the potential reduction in radiator size by incorporating a typical vapor compression cycle (VCC) heat pump in a satellite's thermal management system.
