Crack Initiation Mechanism and Life Prediction of Ti60 Titanium Alloy Considering Stress Ratios Effect in Very High Cycle Fatigue Regime

Ruixiang He et al.

Summary: Ultrasonic fatigue tests were conducted on Ti60 titanium alloy in the very high cycle fatigue regime, revealing continuous declining trends in the S-N curves and fatigue limits at different stress ratios. Fatigue cracks in the VHCF regime were found to initiate from the subsurface, particularly at high stress ratios. Two modified fatigue life prediction models based on fatigue crack initiation mechanisms for the Ti60 titanium alloy in the VHCF regime were developed and showed good agreement with experimental data.

Fatigue life prediction of HTRB630E steel bars based on modified coffin-manson model under pre-strain

Li Gao et al.

Summary: This article presents a new method for predicting the fatigue life of a new type of ultra-high-strength steel bars under pre-strain based on a modified Coffin-Manson model. The test results show that the application of pre-strain decreases the fatigue life of the steel bars, but different pre-strains have the same effect on the fatigue life under the same strain amplitude. By using the Coffin-Manson model and the modified plastic strain formula, the fatigue life of the steel bars can be predicted more accurately.

Summary: A new nonlinear fatigue damage accumulation model is developed in this paper, which considers the loading sequence effect and predicts the rate of damage by introducing a loading sequence parameter. The applicability of the proposed model is validated using nine sets of independent experimental measurements of fatigue life under multiple loading sequences, showing that the predictions are in agreement with the measured results and providing a reliable estimation of fatigue life.
