KIAA0319 influences cilia length, cell migration and mechanical cell-substrate interaction

Rebeca Diaz et al.

Summary: This study developed a human cellular knockout model for the KIAA0319 gene and investigated its function in cilia formation and cell migration. The results showed that knockout of KIAA0319 increased cilia length and accelerated cell migration. Additionally, the knockout reduced the fraction of cells forming actin-rich protrusions.

Facial speech processing in children with and without dyslexia

Martyna A. Galazka et al.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the role of facial speech cues in children with dyslexia and found that children with dyslexia may exhibit different degrees of mouth reliance or mouth insensitivity when processing speech, which seems to be related to the severity of their reading problems.

Defects in the cytoplasmic assembly of axonemal dynein arms cause morphological abnormalities and dysmotility in sperm cells leading to male infertility

Isabella Aprea et al.

Summary: Male fertility issues worldwide may be caused by defects in the preassembly of outer and inner dynein arms, leading to abnormal sperm flagella, impaired sperm motility, and infertility. Studying sperm cells of individuals with mutations in genes related to this process helps understand the clinical relevance of preassembly of dynein arms on male fertility.

Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia

Amelia Shoemark et al.

Summary: Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is an inherited cause of bronchiectasis, with symptoms including chronic productive cough and rhinosinusitis. Diagnosis involves multiple tests, including measurement of nasal nitric oxide and genotyping. Treatment focuses on improving mucociliary clearance and using antibiotics.
