Enhanced photocurrent in ferroelectric Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 materials via ferro-pyro-phototronic effect

Yuan Liu et al.

Summary: We have significantly enhanced the photocurrent of a ferroelectric photoelectric device through the ferropyro-phototronic effect. The simultaneous use of both light and heating increases the peak and platform photocurrents by 131% and 57%, respectively. This enhancement is associated with an increase in pyroelectric coefficient, photoexcited carrier concentration, and carrier mobility at higher temperatures, resulting in a rapid response time.

Giant Near-Room-Temperature Pyroelectric Figures-of-Merit Originating from Unusual Dielectric Bistability of Two-Dimensional Perovskite Ferroelectric Crystals

Liwei Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, giant near-room-temperature pyroelectric figures-of-merit (FOMs) were discovered in two-dimensional (2D) perovskite-type improper ferroelectric crystals. The ultrahigh FOMs were mainly attributed to the large pyroelectric coefficients and unusual bistability of dielectric behavior. This finding has significant scientific implications and potential applications.

More complex than originally thought: revisiting the origins of the relaxation processes in dimethylammonium zinc formate

Paulina Peksa et al.

Summary: Metal formates, a subclass of coordination polymers, exhibit rich phase transition behavior. This study challenges the consensus on the origins of relaxation processes in the low temperature phase of DMAZn, and identifies its crystal symmetry as triclinic. The reversible phase transition between triclinic and trigonal crystal phases allows for nonlinear optical switching. It is also found that the flipping of organic cations in the low temperature phase does not completely freeze.

Tailoring of a visible-light-absorbing biaxial ferroelectric towards broadband self-driven photodetection

Shiguo Han et al.

Summary: This study presents a lead-iodide hybrid biaxial ferroelectric with large spontaneous polarization and a narrow direct bandgap, exhibiting exceptional in-plane photovoltaic effects. The symmetry breaking of 4/mmmFmm2 species results in its biaxial attributes, providing four equivalent polar directions for photovoltaic applications in the crystallographic bc-plane. The coupling between ferroelectricity and photovoltaic effects in this material holds great potential for self-driven photodetection and future optoelectronic device applications.

Improper molecular ferroelectrics with simultaneous ultrahigh pyroelectricity and figures of merit

Wenru Li et al.

Summary: Improper molecular ferroelectric materials [Hdabco]CIO4 and [Hdabco]BF4 show superior pyroelectric performance compared to current ferroelectrics, with pyroelectric coefficients exceeding that of Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O-3-PbTiO3. First-principles and thermodynamic calculations reveal that the strong coupling between anion rotation angle and polarization is responsible for the colossal pyroelectric coefficient of these materials, offering great promise for high-performance pyroelectric devices.
