Conformal frequency conversion for arbitrary vectorial structured light

Hai-Jun Wu et al.

Summary: In this work, a conformal frequency conversion scheme is proposed to maintain the full spatial structure of vectorial structured light. The spatial polarization independence of this scheme is systematically examined based on nondegenerate sum-frequency generation with type-0 phase matching. This proof-of-principle demonstration opens up possibilities for various applications.

Frequency upconversion detection of rotational Doppler effect

Haoxu Guo et al.

Summary: An efficient scheme for measuring the angular velocity of rotating objects in the infrared regime was demonstrated, utilizing a combination of second-harmonic generation (SHG) and rotational Doppler effect. The experiment showed that both the angular velocity and geometric symmetry of rotating objects could be identified from the detected frequency-shift signals at the photon-count level. This scheme has potential applications in infrared monitoring.

High-capacity free-space optical communications using wavelength- and mode-division-multiplexing in the mid-infrared region

Kaiheng Zou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a 300 Gbit/s free-space optical communication system in the mid-IR wavelength region using both wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) and mode-division multiplexing (MDM). The experimental results show the potential of using multiplexing techniques to significantly increase data capacity in mid-IR FSO links.

Nonlinear optics with structured light

Wagner Tavares Buono et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in tailoring light in all its degrees of freedom, with a focus on structured light and nonlinear optics. The traditional linear optical elements have been mainly used for creating desired superpositions, but recent developments have highlighted the importance of spatial structure in nonlinear processes. This review offers a theoretical framework for understanding nonlinear optics in the context of structured light, discussing progress made and challenges ahead.

Atomic Compass: Detecting 3D Magnetic Field Alignment with Vector Vortex Light

Francesco Castellucci et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates how 3D magnetic field alignment can be inferred from single absorption images of an atomic cloud, and proposes a novel method for detecting magnetic vector fields. By introducing spatial phases between atomic energy levels, transient effects can be translated to the spatial domain.

High-Dimensional Two-Photon Interference Effects in Spatial Modes

Markus Hiekkamaki et al.

Summary: Two-photon interference in multiple transverse-spatial modes along a single beam-path was studied, with observations of coalescence and anticoalescence in different spatial-mode multiports. This operation within spatial modes along a single beam path eliminates the need for interferometric stability and presents new pathways for implementing complex quantum information tasks using linear optical networks.
