Gap solitons in a one-dimensional driven-dissipative topological lattice

Nicolas Pernet et al.

Summary: Drive engineering can stabilize new nonlinear phases in topological systems and establish dissipatively stabilized solitons as a powerful resource in topological photonics. The nonlinear response of a polariton lattice implementing the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger model is studied, demonstrating the formation and robust nonlinear properties of topological gap solitons. Leveraging the driven-dissipative nature of the system, a class of bulk gap solitons with high sublattice polarization is discovered, providing an all-optical way to create non-trivial interfaces for Bogoliubov excitations.

Tintu Kuriakose et al.

Summary: Photonic platforms are ideal for quantum technologies due to weak photon-environment coupling and interactions between photons. This study demonstrates that the required nonlinearity can be achieved using exciton-polaritons in micropillars with embedded quantum wells, and observes the effect of cross-phase modulation.

Spontaneous Formation of Time-Periodic Vortex Cluster in Nonlinear Fluids of Light

Kirill A. Sitnik et al.

Summary: We demonstrate the spontaneous formation of a nonlinear vortex cluster state in a microcavity exciton-polariton condensate. The condensate exhibits time-periodic sign flipping of its topological charges at the GHz scale. When optically pumped with a ring-shaped non-resonant laser, the trapped condensate undergoes intricate high order mode competition and fractures into two distinct trap levels. The resulting mode interference leads to robust condensate density beatings with periodic appearance of orderly arranged phase singularities. Our work opens new perspectives on creating structured free-evolving light and singular optics in the strong light-matter coupling regime.

High-Resolution Coherent Probe Spectroscopy of a Polariton Quantum Fluid

F. Claude et al.

Summary: In this study, we present an original angle-resolved coherent probe spectroscopy technique to characterize elementary excitations in polariton fluids. With unprecedented spectral and spatial resolution, we directly observe the low-energy phononic behavior and detect negative-energy modes, as well as reveal narrow spectral features precursory of dynamical instabilities due to the intrinsic out-of-equilibrium nature of the system.

Efficient Quadrature Squeezing from Biexcitonic Parametric Gain in Atomically Thin Semiconductors

Emil Denning et al.

Summary: Electromagnetic quantum fluctuations can be modulated into quadrature squeezing, a key quantum resource generated from nonlinear optical processes. By interfacing atomically thin semiconductors with an optical cavity, it is possible to utilize two-photon resonance and biexcitonic parametric gain for generating squeezed light with significantly lower input power compared to devices using conventional third-order nonlinear materials. Moreover, the squeezing bandwidth is found to be several meV, highlighting atomically thin semiconductors as a promising candidate for on-chip squeezed-light sources.

Polariton condensates for classical and quantum computing

Alexey Kavokin et al.

Summary: Polariton lasers emit coherent monochromatic light through a spontaneous emission process and show properties of Bose-Einstein condensation and superfluidity at room temperature. Emerging material systems for polariton lasers include organic molecules, transition metal dichalcogenides, perovskites, and liquid-crystal microcavities, which have potential applications in topological lasing, classical neuromorphic computing, and quantum information processing. Polaritonics, the study of strongly coupled light-matter states, offers advantages in classical and quantum information processing with full optical control and read-out capabilities.

Optical analogue of Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction in photonic graphene

C. E. Whittaker et al.

Summary: An experimental synthetic non-Abelian gauge field for photons was successfully realized in a honeycomb microcavity lattice, revealing its symmetry in the optical spin Hall effect and paving the way for photon manipulation via spin on a chip. The unique fine structure of eigenstates around Dirac points in photonic graphene made of coupled polaritonic microcavities was demonstrated, showing the formation of a Dresselhaus-like effective magnetic field that can be mapped to a non-Abelian gauge field.

Dynamics of a Vortex Lattice in an Expanding Polariton Quantum Fluid

Riccardo Panico et al.

Summary: The study investigates the behavior of a lattice of vortices in a nonequilibrium polariton fluid, revealing accelerated stretching and outward bending of the lattice and vortex trajectories due to repulsive interactions. Access to full density and phase fields allows detection of a small deviation from the Feynman-Onsager rule in terms of a transverse velocity component caused by the density gradient of the fluid envelope acting on the vortex lattice.

Circular polariton currents with integer and fractional orbital angular momenta

E. S. Sedov et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the internal dynamics of exciton-polariton condensates in a cylindrical pillar microcavity with embedded quantum wells created by nonresonant optical pumping. The controllable polariton flows are demonstrated by breaking the rotational symmetry of the system and switching between integer and fractional orbital angular momenta (OAM) states. By adjusting the position and ellipticity of the pump spot, the phase of the condensate is significantly affected, leading to the observation of polariton current states with various topological charges.
