Genetic association research in football: A systematic review

Alexander B. T. McAuley et al.

Summary: Genetic variation plays a significant role in individual performance differences in sports, with football being one of the most commonly studied areas in genetic association research. Although there has been a substantial increase in genetic association research in football over the past four years, there are methodological inconsistencies such as inadequate description of ethnicity and playing positions. Recommendations for future research include improved study designs, larger sample sizes, and the use of genome-wide and polygenic profiling approaches to enhance understanding of genetic influences on football performance.

The association of theACTN3R577X andACEI/D polymorphisms with athlete status in football: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Alexander B. T. McAuley et al.

Summary: This review assessed the association of ACTN3R577X and ACEI/D polymorphisms with athlete status in football, revealing significant relationships between certain genotypes and athletic success. The findings suggest that individual genetic variation may contribute to athlete status and differentiate athletes in team sports, pointing to a potential impact of specific genetic markers in determining athletic performance.
