Dynamic Cryptography through Plasmon-Enhanced Fluorescence Blinking

Yongfeng Lu et al.

Summary: This study presents a dynamic PUF cryptographic primitive based on plasmonic fluorescence blinking, which utilizes high-capacity optical codes and color codes for decryption and authentication. The fluorescence blinking is detectable by a common fluorescence microscope due to the high electromagnetic field localized within the nanogaps and the large Purcell enhancement.

Single-Molecule Blinking Fluorescence Enhancement by Surface Plasmon-Coupled Emission-Based Substrates for Single-Molecule Localization Imaging

Fan-Ching Chien et al.

Summary: Surface plasmon-coupled emission (SPCE) substrates were fabricated to enhance the blinking fluorescence of spontaneously blinking fluorophores in single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM), with the silver-layer substrate of 44 nm thickness producing the highest SPCE fluorescence and highly directional emission. This substrate improved detection efficiency, reduced fluorescence background, and allowed for precise localization of fluorophores, leading to a 480% fluorescence enhancement and reduced excitation power density for imaging EGFR distribution. Additionally, SPCE-SMLM imaging revealed a decrease in EGFR abundance at the plasma membranes of cells treated with PIKfyve-specific inhibitor.

Unprecedented Fluorophore Photostability Enabled by Low-Loss Organic Hyperbolic Materials

Yeon Ui Lee et al.

Summary: The use of organic hyperbolic materials (OHMs) has demonstrated an optical platform for achieving unprecedented fluorophore photostability without the need for any chemical specificity. This new platform, with its low-loss hyperbolic dispersion and large Purcell effect in the visible spectral range, may open up opportunities in nanophotonics and organic plasmonics for super-resolution imaging and engineering light-matter interactions at the nanoscale.

Intrinsic luminescence blinking from plasmonic nanojunctions

Wen Chen et al.

Summary: Metallic nanojunctions supporting localized plasmon resonances and enhancing light matter interactions have poorly understood dynamical phenomena. This study reports intrinsic photoluminescence blinking from plasmonic nanojunctions, caused by light-induced atomic scale restructuring of the metal.

Single-molecule localization microscopy

Mickael Lelek et al.

Summary: Single-molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) is a powerful imaging technique that allows imaging of biological structures at the molecular scale with improved spatial resolution. By computationally localizing individual fluorescent molecules, super-resolution images can be generated, and experimental considerations and computational processing methods are discussed.
