Cementitious nanocomposites engineered with high-oxidized graphene oxide: Spotting the nano to macro correlation

Mehdi Chougan et al.

Summary: There is a growing interest in using nanosized fillers, such as graphene oxide (GO), in cement-based construction materials to enhance mechanical properties. The interaction between GO and cement can significantly improve the macroproperties of cement. A GO water suspension was selected for its reproducibility and environmental safety. Various tests, including morphological characterization and mechanical property evaluation, were performed on samples with different dosages of GO. Results showed that an extra-low dosage of GO (0.01%) exhibited the most promising enhancement in mechanical strength.

AC impedance spectroscopy of cement- based materials: measurement and interpretation

Ruipan Wang et al.

Summary: This article reviews the factors reflecting the sources of measurement errors of AC impedance spectroscopy (ACIS) of cement based materials and the data interpretation. It also recommends reduction measures and correction methods to minimize the measurement errors. The article finds that the Maxwell model is the most appropriate for describing the AC electrical response of cement based materials, considering the different responses of multi scale unconnected pores.

A review of graphene oxide/cement composites: Performance, functionality, mechanisms, and prospects

Yuxia Suo et al.

Summary: This study summarises the hot topics and research trends of graphene oxide/cement composites (GO/CCs) using bibliometric methods. It reviews the effects of GO/CCs on mechanical performance, transport properties, self-sensing performance, and enhancing mechanisms. Previous studies have shown that the uniform dispersion of GO can significantly improve the strength and resistance of cement composites. Future research should investigate the self-sensing and long-term service performance of GO/CCs under various environmental factors.

Graphene-oxide-reinforced cement composites mechanical and microstructural characteristics at elevated temperatures

Seungyeon Han et al.

Summary: The research investigates the effects of graphene oxide (GO) on the microscopic composition, structure, pore size, and mechanical properties of GO-reinforced cement composites, as well as the thermal behavior of GO-reinforced cement mortar at different elevated temperatures. The study found that an optimal amount of GO can improve the strength and toughness of the cement composites, but excessive GO can lead to nanomaterial agglomeration and lower thermal resistance.

Toward a better understanding of multifunctional cement-based materials: The impact of graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs)

Francesca R. Lamastra et al.

Summary: The addition of graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) improved the density, compressive, and flexural strength of mortar, with high aspect ratio GNPs showing the best mechanical properties. However, the use of low aspect ratio GNPs resulted in decreased electrical resistivity and increased thermal conductivity in cementitious nanocomposites.

Enhanced transport properties of graphene oxide based cement composite material

Chandra Sekhar Reddy Indukuri et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the transport properties of a cement composite incorporated with graphene oxide (GO). The experimental results demonstrated that the addition of GO could significantly decrease water absorption, chloride migration coefficient, and chloride penetration depth in the cement composite specimens, while improving mechanical properties such as flexural strength and compressive strength. SEM analysis also showed that GO-cement composite specimens had a pore-filled structure. Overall, the incorporation of graphene oxide nano material effectively improved the transport properties of the cement composite.
