Hydrothermal Synthesis of Hierarchical SnO2 Nanostructures for Improved Formaldehyde Gas Sensing

Pengyu Ren et al.

Summary: The indoor environment of buildings has a significant impact on people's daily life. This study focuses on the detection of harmful gases using gas sensors for the development of green buildings. The researchers designed SnO2-sensing materials with excellent structures and prepared three types of hierarchical SnO2 microspheres. Among them, the urchin-like microspheres demonstrated improved gas-sensing performance for formaldehyde gas. The structural difference of smaller nanorods was identified as the main reason for the improved gas-sensing properties.
